I know it sounds weird but can that really happen? I've always used Colorsilk and lately about the past 4 dyes I've done its never right. I always make sure its all over every strand of hair and leave it on for the right amount of him. And I was every little bit of it out. And its been about 2 or so weeks and I was just washing my hair and after I got it wet the color started running out. So is my hair immune to that certain kind of dye? And whats a good hair dye, I dont have money to go get it done at the salon.

Did you have any oil or something in your hair when you dyed it? Something to make it so the dye couldn't actually penetrate the hair shaft?

Nope I washed it and dyed it the next morning. And I dont use any products on my hair, just hair spray & gel but only when i curl or scrunch my hair

Hmmm. I'm stumped.

Maybe you should try another brand? Maybe the one you are using switched the formula? Give it as long as possible before you try to switch though. And make sure to do the strand test.

I have been coloring my own hair forever. I know when I wash it the first few times it still bleeds a little color in the shower.

I love Feria the best. They have great reds, so that is what I stick to. Chocolate Cherry is my fave red color.

Me too; I think I've only had my hair colored twice by a pro and that was just to watch the technique so I could do it at home, lol!

My hair has been every color from platinum to blue black and all the browns, reds, purples in between!

I tried Feria a few times and I like that they give a good amount (my hair is very thick and I have a lot of it), but it's not very good for grey coverage- it even says it on the box, but I was stubborn because I liked the amount that they gave you, lol!! anyway, it would wash out in less than a month because the grey is so resistant.

It sounds like the color is just bleeding, which is normal and usually happens with reds and darker tones. But if the color is completley washing out, then it could be your shampoo, your water. Or the company could have switched thier formulas.

Try not washing your hair for a day or two, and then dye your hair. Color sticks better to dirty hair. Also a different brand might work better. I use Garnier, and it always works well on me! Good luck.

I know that if you use a shampoo and especially a conditioner that has a lot of silicones in it, like Pantene for example, it coats the hair shafts and means your dye is not going into the hair shaft, just kind of going on top if that makes sense. Someone told me once her hairdresser said they hate it when customers use Pantene because the dye doesn't work as well apparently.

I have no personal experience though so I have no idea!

I hope you can figure it out! That kind of thing annoys me soo much when I can't find a rational explanation for it! Grr right lol.

I dont like Pantene it makes my hair feel weird lol. But the color didnt start bleeding until almost 2 weeks after dyeing it. In 3 months I try on of the brands you girls gave me.

Thanks!

Hey;

I came back to this thread because I noticed my own hair is only partially taking color- just oon the roots (so it looks like the hair growing out is lighter, when actually it is just the only part that took the dye!! It's not bad or significantly lighter, but it just looks like I dye my hair darker and my light roots are growing out! Weird.), so I did some online searching while waiting for a reply from Clairol (I emailed them asking why would this happen) and I found this on another message board in reply to someone who had the same problem:

Emeraldeyes, the roots take the color faster than the rest of the hair usually. I think your hair may be low porosity, but remember that color can't lift color. Your hair is a level 3, which is dark brown. You can remove the color with a color remover. If you have used several different colors on your hair in the past, it will build up and it will not hold another color. After you remove the old dyes from the hair, whatever color you use will penetrate the cortex of the hair better.

I don't know about you, Makeupwhore, but it definitely sounds like my new problem. I have used several dyes over the YEARS and although it's usually in the same color and tone, every now and then I try something a shade lghter or darker.

Sooo, now I'll try to remove all the old dye and re-dye. After a couple weeks, anyway. I just dyed last night. Don't want to shock the hair anymore than necessary.

I love the L'Oreal brands! I switch between the Preference and the Excellence.

I haave this problem too but I've only dyed a couple of times within the last couple of years.
