I'm tanning again

I am so pale right now because my face & body haven't seen the sun in a year & a half. I've been contemplating going tanning even though I know it's so bad for you. I use some bronzer for color on my face but I need some more oomph. I've managed to keep away from the fake n' bake salon because I keep reminding myself beauty now, ugly later when I'm wrinkly before my time. I think before the month is over, I'll cave in and buy a few sessions. The things we do in the name of beauty...

Have you ever tried any sort of a sunless tanner Salope? I have tried some that have VERY natural colors to them...

I think it is maybe endorphins (pleasure hormones) that make you feel good. You can get them from chocolate too! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I know, I am trying not to be mean about it, since I have never been in one, but my sister has done it a lot, and she looks so much older already and she is only 19!

Which ones do you like?

I have tried some that I thought looked natural but I have a hard time getting it on the back of my hands w/o washing it off. I have to scrub my palms so they don't stain and when I do I always end up washing it off the back of my hands. It doesn't look very natural when you have pale hands with tan arms. Or sometimes I manage to get the backside okay but then it washes off my fingers so it still looks strange.

Try putting the tanner on the backs of your hands after you've washed your palms with a makeup sponge. That way it doesn't get on your fingers again!

I know about the depression of being pale. I just feel so much more confident when I have a tan. Not to mention how relaxing it is to be in a tanning bed. I wonder if you just make sure to keep your skin REALLY REALLY moisturized, if that would help it not age so quickly.

I'm on the fence about this subject. I know it isn't good for you, but damn I feel so good when I see that tan!

i must admit, i'm a regular tanner. i don't think there's anything wrong with tanning occasionally.. of course there's always extremes in every situation but, getting '' some sun '' can actually be good for you. luckily i don't turn orange or burn at all. when i don't tan i look sick in my opinion :icon_eek: i'm half italian, 25% african american and 25% native american and i'm naturally verrrrry light. no one can tell that i tan, it looks very natural 'cause of my skin pigmentation i turn brown pretty much immediately.

I wonder why I am the only one that doesnt care about being tan? I tanned when I was really little, just b/c I was out playing. I dont mind my natural shade (it is kind of pale like Renee Zellwegger or Nicole Kidman). I am the only pale one in my family, my mom has kind of an olive complexion (and black hair), her mom was mistaken for a Native American, just seeing her wrinkles (more so than most older ladies I know) makes me never want to tan. I assume it is b/c of my dad's side of the family, they were pale, his mom and sister, I didnt get a chance to meet the others. I get a lot of compliments on my skin. I did try a fake tanner but it turned me orange, that was when I was young, I know they make much more natural ones now. Too much trouble to wipe that on me.

HUGE ditto :icon_smil

Tanning is my second addiction, after MAC. Though I must admit i've not been on a bed for almost 2 weeks :icon_eek: and im fading away haha, i cant cope haha. I use to go on about 3 times a week.

I like anything by Neutrogena, Alba Botanika (usually found at health food stores) and Jergens Natural Glow.

Here is how I apply them, maybe this will help you. I use rubber gloves, the surgical gloves you can buy at the drugstore. This way I don't have tanner soaking into my palms for the 10-15 min it takes me to do myself. When I am ready to do the backs of my hands, I take the gloves half off, put tanner on the back "pad" of my hand. Then I take the gloves all the way off, use a couple fingers or the crumpled gloves to spread the tanner on my fingers. I don't WASH my hands if I have used my fingers to finish my hands, but I will take a wet washcloth and wipe them down.

That way, water doesn't get on the backs of my hands, and then tanner still gets off my fingers...

You aren't the only one who doesn't care about being tan dixie wolf! I think for these people who tan all the time, they get used to seeing themselves darker and just aren't used to their natural color when they aren't. Just like girls who get their hair highlighted and highlighted, then bleached and bleached and STILL think it isn't blonde enough! My colorist told me she sees it all the time!

To be honest, I think it looks a little weird to see someone tan in the wintertime. When I went to Europe this summer, I was slightly tempted to get a bit of a tan, seeing every French and Italian person perfectly bronzed from the Mediterrainian sun! But then I was in a store talking to these two French girls. I thought both of them were older than me - one maybe a couple years older than me, the other mid-thirties. It turned out that the one was 18, and the other was only 23. I am TWENTY FIVE!! And it was the same with everyone I met down there, and it is all because of the constant tanning! Those people BAKE! Not to mention the fact that they all smoke like chimneys...

I'm half mediterrianian, and sure, i look great with a tan, but to me, it's not worth it. I want to stave off aging for as long as I possibly can! Pale skin is beautiful too - including pale olive skin! Maybe if I lived in California or Florida, I would be a bit more tempted. But living here in DC, everyone else is pale, so what do i care!?

im still deciding whether 2 self tan or to start goin on sunbeds, does anyone know how much a spary tan is because thats what everyone seems to be turning too instead of sun beds.

anyway while i was at collgege i was learning how 2 apply fake tan but i only did it once as i left but this is what i remember, to apply fake tan exfoliate first (this will remove dead skin cells giving u an even surface and helpin the tan from streaking) then ONLY moisturise in dry areas such as ankles, elbows knees but no where else. then apply ur tanner with gloves.

After we did that we buffed to get rid of any excess tan :icon_conf but im still tryin 2 think what we buffed with, all i can remember is using a glove but that was to take the the exfoliator off. i dont know how to explain the material of the glove but if anyone wants 2 know ill find out for ya.

I didn't start tanning until I was 19. I usually only do it once a week for a few months out of the year. It was never an issue for me. I was okay with the way I looked, but as with makeup I realized the potential of having some color and I didn't want to let it go. It's a totally different look for me! So, giving up tanning is like any of you giving up makeup. Of course, you might say mu is not bad for you, but there are many mu products that have harmful ingredients in them.

I know what ya mean! I feel so much better with some color and get more compliments with a tan so that's why I like to keep it up. I take alot of antioxidants daily to help protect my skin. I moisturize and exfoliate like crazy when I tan so my body actually glows and looks healthier than when I haven't been tanning. It may catch up to me one day but we're all gonna be old one day and there's no escaping that so i'm not gonna worry about that now.

Tanning twice a week in a tanning bed during winter would make me look like I just got back from a month on the beach. Way overboard. Twice a month, would give you a nice glow I would think. Remember to lotion up.

My mom is in her mid-fifties and has few wrinkles. I seriously believe it's because she never went sunbathing and when we would go to the beach she wore sunblock and a hat. She did however always tan the rest of her.

I haven't tanned since the beach this summer and though my tan has faded, I'm not quite as pale as I used to be. I don't know if I'll hit the tanning salon just quite yet though. I think I'll just stick to my bronzer for now.

Leila, do you use the jergens on your face too? how are you liking it?

The only problem I have with getting paler in the winter are the "are you sick?" and "have you been getting enough sleep?" comments :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Though I've never been to a tanning bed, I go to the pool a few times during the summer for a few hours and I tan very quickly (half asian skin) so the tan is maintained for a good while. The only problem with being able to tan SO easily is always having to be on the alert for preventing tan lines!

Update: I've gone tanning and despite my paleness, I surprisingly got a good amount of color in only 3 sessions. I only bought 7 sessions and will stagger the remaining ones to about once every two weeks. I'll start using Jergen's Body Glow now in an effort to maintain color.
I wear spf daily so I tell myself my fake tanning isn't that bad since I'm protecting my skin everyday. Funny thing is people look healthier and much better with that sun kissed glow.
