Prepare for way too much information, but since I can't seem to figure out what it is, maybe you'll notice something I've missed.
So lately my hair has taken to being gunky. I shampoo and condition every day, currently using Infusium 23 Repair and Renew, sometimes following up with the Generic AntiSnap, and on a rainy day I recently used Straight Sexy Hair Smooth and Seal. Within the last week (specifically the day after that rainy day) the hair on the very top of my skull along the center part has started getting clumpy, almost oily but thick and sticky, forming gross looking strings for a few inches, so it looks like I haven't showered in a few days, despite having just come out of the shower.
Day -1: Rainy day. I used the Smooth and Seal, and, since it tends to come out of the bottle in somewhat unpredictable amounts, had used a bit too much. Didn't think anything of it that day.
Day 1: The next day my hair was pretty gunky, but I just made a face and showered again. However, AGAIN it was gunky.
Day 2: After 2 more showers, I tried to make the connection between the smooth and seal, so I figured it's the residue resisting the shampoo. Since I had heard that you could tackle bad box dye jobs with an immediate followup with dish soap, I tried that, figuring that since Palmolive is MADE to tackle oil and grease, this stuff can't possibly resist. So cleaned with the soap, followed up with a condition.
Day 3: Still gunky. Soaped my hair again, didn't condition the top of my scalp, wondering if it was the conditioner causing the gunk. Started looking better until that afternoon, when it was definitely there again.
Day 4: Went back to just shampooing and conditioning. Seemed to get better.
Day 6: It's back. Nasty and gross and ugh. Note that I have not used any additional products in this past week, since the Smooth and Seal.
I have fine caucasian hair, and my skin tends towards somewhat oily, though it's never been problematic. I did just recently switch shampoos, from Herbal Essenses to this Infusium 23. I don't have dandruff. It's hot and humid here in the Southern States, so that makes for more oil and sweat, but that should just wash out with no problem. I always air dry my hair.
I have noticed this in the past, but it only ever lasted for a day, so I always just assumed I didn't get all the conditioner out.
I have no idea what else to give you. You have the story, go all detective on it! I am begging for a solution!
