I just cut my hair to a little past my shoulders... it was about 3 inches longer! I love the cut but it only seems to look good when i straighten it because when i blow dry it all my layers go in weird directions! I dont want to straighten it everyday cuz i want healthy hair so does any one know any ways to style it? also what are good but inexspensive straighteners and heat protectants along with frizz control? any help would be great thanks!!!

Well, it sounds like you have a nice wave to your hair...I have the same thing. Since you had longer hair before, it probably was not that noticeable but since you cut 3 inches off, it sprouted right back up into a wave. Sooo..what I would recommend to you if you do not want to straighten it everyday, try getting a straightening product, with a cream consistency's. I like Redken Align, I know you said you wanted inexpensive but it's not too bad in pricing and it will last you a long time...This product is put on when your hair is wet, focusing on the midshaft and ends of your hair. Then try to blow dry your hair straight, you can use a brush if needed or use your hands and take your hair straight down. This should hopefully get your ends to become straight, if needed, you can straighten it with a flat iron. I would recommend going to Sally's, they have good inexpensive flat irons. Be sure to get 1 inch flat iron, no bigger or smaller. 1 inch allows you to focus on an area at one time and its not uncomfortable to use. After you straighten, you can take the Align product again and use about a dime size and run it through your hair to add some shine and frizz control while its dry.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thank you so much!!! Is your avatar you? You have such pretty hair! I will definitely try that product and those tips! Thanks again!

I have the same problem right now since I cut my hair... so thanks for the tips!

Do you have any layers on the bottom of your hair?

I have wavy/curly hair and I like to style it straight.

Before I had layers - after straightening my hair, the bottom of my hair would swell out, become poufy and I'm left with a triangular look.

The layers has made my hair much more manageble and I don't need to use as much styling products.

I agree! I have the same problem with my hair and that is what I do. The Align isn't too bad when you consider how long it last. I've had mine for about 2 yrs already. I mix it with a small bit of Chi Silk Infusion and put it in my wet hair. Also Stylist101: would you mind sharing your routine, your hair does look great!!

Well, that picture was taken about a year ago so my hair has gotten much longer since then but I do about the same thing I did a year ago.

The first and most important thing is that I have to dry my bangs first or else they will just go nuts, so if you have bangs...dry those first! I dont use too much on my hair really, I don't always use align but I do occasionally use it. And I really love the chi silk infusion, I use that about everyday, wet and dry. I've started using a moose everyday too. This helps give me some volume so its not flat to my head. I like Redken Full Frame and Redken Touch Control, both work very well. I only use a brush to help give me volume and to control my bangs. I occasionally will run it through my hair to help get the ends to straighten better. But, I use a really nice blow dryer to. It dries my hair in 4 minutes and leaves no frizz. Its the Chi Rocket. Its amazing. It used to take 10 minutes to dry my hair and it would be all frizzy, once I used the Rocket, I would never go back to the regular hair dryer again. So, as I continue to dry it, I use my hands a lot to move certain hairs where I want them to go. Since my hair has gotten longer, its not as wavy as it was when it was shorter which is a plus. I do use a straightener everyday because I have become accustomed to it. I use the Chi Flat iron as well as the Paul Mitchell flat iron. Both work the same for me. Once I flat iron, I'll tease some of my roots using a fine tooth comb and some big sexy hair spray by Sexy Concepts, and then spray my hair with the Big sexy hair spray and I'm pretty much done. It takes about 20 minutes to do everything for me.

Stylist101, you should do a tutorial. I just cut my hair to about chin length and am having problems getting my hair to do the round C shape instead of straight and then the curl at the ends.

That haircut of yours is very popular and can be worn many different ways but in order for it to curl in, you either need a curling iron or a flat iron. I prefer the flat iron over the curling iron because it doesn't leave any lines in the hair. I like a 1 in flat iron, no bigger or smaller. If do already use a 1 in flat iron, try to round the ends with it. You can go straight down from the root to the midshaft to keep it straight, but once you get to the ends, bring the flat iron towards your face making a C shape with the iron. If you have already tried this let me know.

Stylist101: Thanks so much for the help! I really want to get my bangs to do like yours. They don't though they just hang even though they are chin length. Maybe too heavy or something...I'm not sure. Right now I'm growing my hair out so maybe it will get better. What Shampoo & Conditioner do you use? Your hair shines sooo much...I just love it! My hair is Short, thick, frizzy, and dry so any S&C recs would be appreciated!! Sorry If I hijacked the thread.

Your fine....I am going to send you a PM, I already wrote it but apparently I need two more posts before I can send PM's. Weird. Anyway, I mentioned a shampoo and conditioner that I would recommend for YOUR hair type. You say your hair is thick, frizzy and dry. Well, my hair is not thick so I would not recommend the same s&c as you. And its not ALL that frizzy, at least not anymore lol. But I use Redken Clear Moisture Shampoo and All Soft Conditioner. The shine comes from the All Soft because it has gold camelina in it.
