I am 60 yrs old, thyroid medication, I am trying the bob but my hair seems flat. What are some good shampoo and hair products to not make hair flat. It is harmonal.

My top flat as a pancake need volume. My top is not long.

Do you have to use same shampoo and conditioner.

I have tried styling gels, mousees maybe not the right ones. It is very frustrating to get volume. I dry my hair upside down and then blow dry.

Thanks,

Marcia

I also have fine hair that gets flat on top- a few things that help for me are buildup from styling products, my hair always looks thicker after a day or two unwashed. A layered cut and highlights or color thickens the strands too.

And using a non stripping shampoo is good as well, hair that is too clean is flat. That means staying away from pretty much most commercial shampoos, which are strong detergents that strip the hair so that you have to use the conditioner to soften it up again....(these companies know what they are doing and how to get us to buy more of their products ) I recently have been trying different shampoos in the form of bar soap from natural soap companies, and my hair is alot thicker after washing with them. The best one so far that I have tried is from Splash Organics and is called Sandalwood, it is for body, face and hair. Definately left my flat hair with more body.

have you tried Aveda's Pure Abundance? Apparently it's got clay in it that binds to the hair to make it look thicker.....my stylist used it on my hair and it seemed to help Volumize ( I al so have fine hair than can go flat).

it was also recommended in this month's InStyle Top Beauty Buys....

Hi Marcia

Paula Begoun - consumer advocate - recommends the following for fine hair:

Keep hair on the shorter side, with layers.

Colouring hair can swell the hair shafts making it look less limp.

Do not use any stying products and consider not conditioning either.

Try not to touch your hair.

Basically, the more you fuss with your hair, the limper it gets.

Try this:

Garnier Fructis XXL Volume Root Booster

I use this all the time and it works great for me. I spray it on the roots of my towel dried hair and massage it in. I use a round brush to pick up my hair and dry the root first.

Thanks for the rec, I'm gonna check it out!

my hair is so limp and flat it's so frustrating! I've just about given up on my hair, lol

I am 48 and have always had thin fine hair. I agree with others dont wash hair every day every 3 or 4 would be good if you can stand it. I think layering has helped give me some volumn as well. Self magazine had a texturizer thing where I got to sample like 4 products to test so I dont know the price on these products but a few I do like and use (though I swear nothing works like I really really hope for)

Anyway these 3 I like and continue to use

At Sallys Beauty Supply "Beyond The Zone" : "Air Wax" also there hair spray is awesome as well both of those are pretty cheap $4.99 each both use on dry hair

Phyto Organics Omni Styler Versatile Desingning Liquid and Hapuna Hapuna beach styling fixative

Good luck
