I have no idea how to explain to my stylist the color I want - please help :)

Hi all -

I had my hair highlighted 2 weeks ago and I'm really not happy with it.

It seems the more I go, the more I lose my natural color even though I'm asking for high and lowlights.

My hair is now an awful shade of yellow.

I can tolerate it until December when I'm due to go back - I used the Pantene Silver Expressions which seemed to help tone it down slightly.

I'm looking for a new stylist in LA since mine is always out of the country filming and I want to start over and go more towards my natural color which is a light brown.

Here's a photo of me from last weekend (I'm on the far right). I'm attaching photos of the look I'm going for.

Do I need to start over with a base shade and highlight that or can I go in with heavy low and highlights and go darker?

Any help would be great.

print the pics and show them! explaine you want to be blonde but to definantly have some of your natural brown in. thats how i have my hair when its light. next time just have her put some low lites in no highlites this way you have more brown in it. what i do is once a year i make it all brown for a few months this way my hair gets a break from bleach and it gives me a base to go off of. i get highlites untill you cant see the brown anymore then make it brown and then start over

Yeah take the pics to your stylist and ask around if someone can do your hair like that.

Definitely take the pics with you to your stylist! If she didn't know what color you meant, then you could've tried another salon. I always take a pic with me if I'm looking at a specific style or color. Beats trying to explain it, and they have a visual to go by.

Well I do not know anyone in L.A. but Orange County is not far from L.A. call my sister-in-law Bridgette 562-631-0740 she is located in Fullerton and works at Salon Lujon or Megan 714-457-3909 she is located in Orange at Platnium Strands..........dark colors are Bridgettes specialty and blonde is absolutley what Megan is best at. Also both of them have many color swatches they can show you. Hope I helped!

I would definitely take the pics (printed in color of course) with you. Last time I got my hair cut I brought a picture of a very specific Jessica Simpson haircut and my hairdresser did it EXACTLY like the picture - it was amazing!

Only problem with pictures is alot of clients expect their hair to look exactly like the picture and your hairdresser will try to get it like the picture to the best of their ability but when you pick out your hairstyle according to a picture you have to take the texture of your hair into account. For example: my hair is VERY thick & usually very frizzy so getting any of Jessica Simpsons, Ashlee Simpsons, or Kate Bosworths haircuts is possible but it will NEVER look as straight or in place as their hair. That is why trusting your hairstylist is VERY important and being detailed in what your saying, and asking them to explain what they will be doing on your hair before they do it. I hope that helps.
