I have long hair and have never had dandruff! I think I have it now though!

I look around at my scalp and i see a bunch of white specks like in my hair near the scalp. I scratched my head a lot one day so i thought maybe it was just from that. but now i notice that its there everyday. I have never had it so i dont understand why all the sudden i have it!

Do you think it could be from not washing my hair a lot? I always thought it was good to not wash your hair for a few days. I never did that often but lately i have just been so depressed more than i have ever been in my life so i never feel like getting out of bed let alone wash my hair.

I noticed that my boyfriend had some selsun blue so i washed my hair with that today... Is this just for men? or can women use it too? does it work??

how long does it take for dandruff to go away???

it is more likely than not build up on your scalp, if the selsun blue does not work try using either a clariflying shampoo or ading a bit of backing soda to yours.

also selsun blue is for both genders

Yea it could also just be build up or even if your scalp is dry it might be flaking, that happens to me in the winter sometime. Neautrogena makes a really good clarifying shampoo, and Head and Shoulders works really good on dandruff and they make a lot of formulas for specific hair types now.

Dont worry it will go away and stay away

And also dont worry that its from not washing your hair alot, I only wash my hair every 3 or 4 days usually, and your right it is better for your hair, and it shouldnt be a cause of dandruff.

If the Selsun Blue doesn't work, you can also try Neutrogena T-Gel... it's really good stuff and it works like a charm

If the dandruff shampoos don't work in two weeks, it could also be from dry scalp. Try something like jojoba oil.

It's good to wash your hair every other day, not going 3-4 days without washing your hair. If you have oily hair like I do, going 2-3 days without washing your hair is horrible! Most people think having dandruff means your hair is dry, it's the opposite, it means your hair is oily.

Buy 2-3 different dandruff shampoos and use a different one each day. That helps more than sticking to 1 dandruff shampoo. Wash your hair every day from now on until your dandruff goes away and then go to washing it every other day.

great suggestions! i agree with using a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove build up. neutrogena is good. also, use head & shoulders or selsun blue a few times a week. the dandruff should go away. yeah, men & women both use selsun. it's no gender thang.

i use head&shoulders and satisfied. you can try it. if your head itches, you may also try loreal elseve soin sos. it gives freshness and anti-dandruff.

It sounds like a dry scalp, not dandruff. Just be sure you're washing your shampoo and conditioner out thoroughly.

If it's dandruff, I recomend you to try a medical shoampoo line, like Ducray. There're different tipes of dandruff - dry and oily. I had dry dandruff and Selegel-Ducray helped me.

I have chronic dandruff, mine never goes away. It's because I have really sensitive skin. Anyways, I use Pantene's dandruff shampoo. It has a lower dose of dandruff meds than most shampoo so it's safe to use everyday.

i have it too. maybe from dry scalp or something else i'm not sure.

i've tried the t-gel and while it made my scalp less itchy, it didn't get rid of the flakes.

what i did since is not use any shampoo with sls or other similar harsh detergents and my flakes, while still have a few here and there, is not bad enough to bother me.

i hope you find something that works for you. good luck!

Head and Shoulders with Zinc works pretty well too. I never had it before either, then it suddenly appeared for no reason.

when i went back home for like 2 weeks, i magcially got dandruff which freaked me out. it went away though when i came back.
