hey you hair hippies!

So I recently started a new hair care regemin and it has been working out really good.

I only use natural products in my hair, meaning that i am talking about products that are sulfate free and paraben free and all that! I am talking about products where you can actually recognize all the stuff written on the back of the bottles!

I have been loving it alot alot alot, my hair doesn't feel dry (which chemicals such as laurel sufate can do) my hair feels moisturized and has never looked as healthy!!

And my hair is growing way faster than it used to!!!

This is my hair regimen:

(Everybody has a diffrent hair type but this is what works for me really good and I think could work for you to. I have biracial hair --> Black&White--> Long, dry, frizzy, fine/medium, loose curly/wavy hair)

- Wash my hair once a week with aubreys all natural shampoo and conditoner for dry and frizzy hair

- Co-Wash my hair 2-3 times a week with burts and bees deep 2 minute conditioner

- Leave-In Condition with my Giovanni organic hair care (love it!!)

- Styl with Giovanni organic Sunset styling lotion

- 2x a week I moisturize my hair with 100% unrefined shea butter-- Roots and ends(I reccommend everybody to go get this, its a good skin clearer as well!!)

- Once every 2 weeks Ill give my hair a deep coconut oil treatment with Queen Helen Cocoa Butter Creme, Leave in my hair for 1-2 hours with a plastic bag on top then wash it out and my hair will look /feel AMAZING FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK!!

So this is what I do, and what has been working for meee and Im sure it can work for anyone else aswell anyways tell me what yall think about natural products and stuff and if you agree with me that sulfates and regular drugstore products are evil!!

Good for you ! I try to avoid as much as possible products containing SLS, it's really irritating.

Me too, but IDK of many alternatives bc most shampoos contain it.

Here's a good website of harmful chemicals in our beauty products.

Harmful Ingredients to Avoid in Your Personal Care and Beauty Cosmetics

Over the last 100 years, the rate of cancer in the U.S. has sky-rocketed from 1 out of 800 people diagnosed, to 1 out of 3 today. Are you Wondering WHY? We have some of the answers.

RALPH NADER; Consumer Advocate, Forwarded from the book "The Safe Shoppers Bible" written by Samuel Epstein, MD and David Steinman, MD:

"Consumers receive little guidance from product manufacturers, whose advertising and labeling are too often misleading and not objective sources of information. Government also offer little guidance. Indeed, while many local, state, and federal government agencies are entrusted with protection of the public health, most have failed to assure consumers that they are being adequately protected, or that they are being provided with full, if any, label disclosure of Carcinogenic (cancer-causing), neurotoxic (causing damage to the nervous system), or teratogenic (birth defect-causing) chemicals in their household products."

The Safe Shoppers Bible goes on to suggest: "Read the labels on your Shampoo, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Moisturizer, Facial Cleanser, Shaving cream, Bubble-bath & other personal care products. You will most likely find some of the following Harmful-Carcinogenic Ingredients in the products that you are now using!"

List of Carcinogens from the US. Government Offices

6th Report on Carcinogens from the General Accounting Offices of our government on Propylene Oxide, (propylene glycol is a derivative)

PROPYLENE GLYCOL(MSDS)

Called a humectant in cosmetics, it is really "industrial anti-freeze" and the major ingredient in brake and hydraulic fluid. Tests show it can be a strong skin irritant. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on Propylene Glycol warn to avoid skin contact as it is systemic and can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage.

Propylene glycol - What products its in and and what its used for

MINERAL OIL (PETROLATUM, PETROLEUM) (MSDS)

First Report on Carcinogens from the US Government: Coal Tars and Mineral Oil

Comes from crude oil (petroleum) used in industry as metal cutting fluid. May suffocate the skin by forming an oil film. Healthy skin needs to take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. This process should not be inhibited. Holding large amounts of moisture in the skin can "flood" the biology, and may result in immature, unhealthy, sensitive skin that dries out easily.

PETROLATUM, PETROLEUM, MINERAL OIL (MSDS)

Same properties as Mineral Oil. Industrially it is used as a grease component.

SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) and SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES) (MSDS)

Potentially, SLS is perhaps the most harmful ingredient in personal-care products. SLS is used in testing-labs as the standard skin irritant to compare the healing properties of other ingredients. Industrial uses of SLS include: garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers and car wash soaps. Studies show its danger potential to be great, when used in personal-care products. Research has shown that SLS and SLES may cause potentially carcinogenic nitrates and dioxins to form in the bottles of shampoos and cleansers by reacting with commonly used ingredients found in many products. Large amounts of nitrates may enter the blood system from just one shampooing.

Sodium Fluoride (MSDS) - used as Rat poison, do you want it in your toothpaste?

Cocoamide DEA, TEA, MEA, (MSDS), diethanolamine, triethanolamine, sudsing agents, known carcinogens, seen on CBS News in 1998.

BENTONITE or KAOLIN

Clays in foundations that may clog and suffocate the skin.

GLYCERIN (synthetic)(MSDS)

Draws moisture from inside the skin, and holds it on the surface for a better "feel". Dries skin from the inside out. Listed on MSDS as hazardous

Titanium Dioxide (MSDS) -now FINALLY declared a carcinogen, 2001

COLLAGEN and ELASTIN of HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT

Derived from animal skins and ground-up chicken feet. Both of these ingredients form films that may suffocate and over-moisturize the skin. BAR SOAPS Made from animal fat and lye. May let bacteria feed and grow in it. May corrode & dry the skin.

Many of the hyped ingredients found in most cosmetic brands cannot penetrate the skin because of their high-molecular weight, so they are of little benefit. For example: procollagen, collagen, elastin, cross-linked elastin, and hyaluronic acids...

Other virtually useless ingredients are insoluble oil-based Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate), Placental Extracts, and Royal Bee Jelly.

Me too!

Although I've recently took a break from my CG routine, I didn't go for sulfates or silicones. I use a cocomydipropyl betaine shampoo and some conditioners that don't contain silicones.

C. betaine is unfortunately still drying, but it's better than sulfates.

How do you use the shea butter? Leave it in and then shampoo it out? Leave overnight? Do you mix it with something else?

I have a jar of unrefined shea butter but I find it difficult to use because it's kind of hard..

I'd love to put it to some good use though.
