I went in today to see my hairdresser, i've been going to her for over a year. Well I was trying to grow my hair out and I finally got my hair to cover my neck. Well I showed her a picture of something I liked, it was side swept bangs and textured layers. Well when she got done my hair is as short as a mans in back and chin length on the sides. I'm pretty upset right now, and I know growing it out is all I can do, but is there any shampoos, products, etc. that will help it grow faster? I went to get it done because I'm actually going out on a date with my husband tomorrow and I wanted it to look good. I have messed up so badly and don't know what to do! Any Advice would be appreciated! TIA...

I received a horrible cut in January so I know how you feel.

Have you thought about returning to the salon and asking for some styling tips? Maybe they can show you a few ideas that will look nice.

The only way I can make my hair look longer is using a flat iron to straighten the curls out.

When I am finished, I smoosh a drop of serum in my palms and apply it throughout my hair. It smoothes the cuticles down for a nice shine and makes my hair look healthier.

I hope you have a nice evening.

I agree, ask for styling tips.

Unfortunately you can't do anything to speed up hair growth. I wish there was, because I am trying to grow out the last of some off color in my hair.

I don't trust anyone to cut my hair, so now I just do it myself.

It is said that prenatal vitamins help speed up the process of hair growth, im not sure about that though.

You can always get hair extensions if you can afford it, otherwise the only choice you have is to be patient and wait till it grows.

I don't ever go to salons to cut my hair, i have learned to cut it myself so i dont have to get it cut by someone that doesn't know what they;re doing.

I too have been trimming and cutting my own hair. I don't trust other people around me with scissors! I've heard Biotin speeds up hair growth and good nutrition is also key.

If you have the extra cash you can also consider extentions like another poster stated above.

I cut my kids hair and my husband's hair, but I don't know if I could cut my own. How did you all learn to do it? Right now it's too short for me to cut but once it grows out I would love to start doing that. I have to straighten it out to make it look a little longer, but i'm afraid i'll fry it doing it every day. I flipped it up all around last night and it looked ok, but i'm still upset about the length I worked for is gone. She is the kind of stylist who turns you away from the mirror until she's done. I think i'm going to start looking for another stylist. I used to go to a older guy and he always trimmed it up for me, but didn't know a lot about styles. I guess I should consider going back to him until I get it grew out. I want to end up with mid back length and get it cut like Jennifer Aniston. I guess it's time to start growing again. Thanks for all the replies. I started taking extreme Biotin yesterday 3,000 mg. I plan to check out the hair, skin, and nails I keep reading about. Are there any shampoo's that are good for getting your hair healthy or helping when you have to flat iron almost daily? TIA!

sorry, i don't have any suggestions. i just wanted to say how sorry i am that you weren't happy. i know from other threads that you've been working on your hair for a while, so it really sucks that this happened.

Well, I just did it. I looked at a few sites on how to cut layers into hair and just went for it. I have seen enough people screw up cutting curly hair that I figured at least this time if it didn't work out my hair was screwed up for free.

I did it in front of the big mirror in the bathroom. Also, I cut little by little. You can always trim a little more if it wasn't enough.

Thanks for all the replies. I bought some TRESemme Heat Recovery shampoo and conditioner since I know i'm going to be flat ironing it alot.

Youtube has tutorials on how to cut hair, i just learned from watching other stylists, and i did the same thing on myself, i usually use a razor to cut mine layered, so it easy for me

i sympathize a hairdresser did this to me in 2005, i went in with waist length hair asked for a few layers and 2" cut off, i came out with hair which was cropped at the back and just covered my ears in the front and was devastated.

I have not stepped foot in a hairdressers since. But what i did was leave it no cuts until i could get it back in a pony tail, which took just over a year for me, now just over 2 years on my hair is just 6.5" off waist. I recently started taking kelp along with multi vitamins and my growth rate has shot up from 1/2" a month sometimes nothing to, 1.5" to 2" a month, so im sticking with this regime as it works for me, might be worth a try for you. Kelp is very cheap too. HTH

I have had so many terrible experiences with salons and hairdressers I just said forget, and learned how to cut my own hair. I have cut my own hair for 5 years and have been more than pleased. It is really easy as long as you maintain. The only way to make it appear longer is straighten it, with a flat iron, or go for the real iron. just flip your head over on a towel and for it! Vitamins always help, fish oil and flaxseed oil are great for hair strength.Prenatal vitamins are also fantactic for hair.Sorry for your bad experience. Maybe when your hair grows out a little bit you can invest in a proffesiuonal pair of scissors and just trim it up yourself, even if you only take a 16th of an inch off you know exactly what is coming off!

aww I feel so bad for u!! I hate it when HD go scissor crazy

I can suggest to buy a bunch of bobby pins and pull up your hair in a high pony pin up stranded hairs and wear some pretty earrings

gosh Im so sorry that happened to u

Thanks for all the help. I have been taking some Hair skin & nails vitamins from Walmart. I'm still trying to find a shampoo & Conditioner that will help smooth or straighten my hair a bit so I don't have to flat iron so much. Luckily my hair has grew out some, but not nearly enough. I can put some of my hair up in a ponytail now, more like a nub...lol but the back of it won't go up in the ponytail. I will be so Excited when it grows to my shoulders. What Is kelp? I have a sea Kelp shampoo & conditioner, but haven't used it yet. It's Freemans anyone use this before?

The nub looks great iv seen it before
