I have curly hair. It drives me nuts! I want to love my curls! I want healthy looking hair -- but NOT only healthy looking. I want it to BE healthy. Right now my hair is just so dry I can't stand it! I have to wash it every day because my style WILL NOT last through the night. I can't sleep on it. And if I wet it down, it WON't restyle. It ends up loking SO much worse. Please help me manage, but more importantly LOVE my curls. ANY tips for curly hair will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Well.. I dont have natural curly hair but mine is permed.

I use coconut oil on my hair and it makes my hair so soft.

I wash my hair everyday so i put the coconut oil on my hair lot and then in the morning i wash it. And I love it

Where can I get coconut oil? Other than the obvious?

Hm my hair is spiral curls and hopefully I can help you abit....hm well for starters if I sleep right on my curls or squish them for too long they get flat frizzy funny looking too so I just avoid this by moving my hair out of the way?! Lol I hope that doesnt sound dumb but its logical and it works. I hold my curls with gel, I do it when I get out of the shower and then just let it dry, they hold like this for 3 days at least...So I dont have to wash them if it gets a little frizzy use a little serum or lotion or whatever...Washing curly hair everyday is verrrrry bad for it makes it very dry because its very dry to begin with...Use a moisturzing shampoo/conditioner...

The thing with curly hair that makes it different from straight is its very 'porous' (is that the right word?) so it always needs moisture the more you give it yourself the less itll frizz up and the prettier and healthier it will be! Like when you finish showering leave half your conditioner in on purpose, and style your hair wet as you can manage moisture helps form curls...

I hope this long post helped at all if you have anymore specific questions ask me

and kilah kitty, thanks for your tips! i think most of my problem is that i do wash it every day. i only do it because i can't manage it otherwise, but its getting so dry now, that it is unbearable! how often do you wash yours? when i sleep on my hair wet, it ends up looking monstrous in the morning. so i don't do that. when i sleep on it dry, it gets all tangly, teh curls looks their shape and it looks frizzy and fuzzy! its irks me so that i have to wash it again. plus, the few times i have gone without washing it daily, i rinse my hair with water and conditioner, and comb out all my tangles. then i add more gel, and my hair looks okay. but then once it dries, my roots look greasy. plus i don't like adding all that extra gel.. it feels nasty. should i add more gel or find a curl reviver or something?
i use shampoos made for moisturizing/curly hair such as: suave professional healthy curls and humectant, garnier fructis curl & shine, herbal essences totally twisted and breaks over, and tresemme smooth and silky. when i was my hair, i always leave my conditioner on for about 3-4 minutes. i have tons of products! i use gels mostly, but that doesn't leave my curls as soft as i would like them to be. but when i use anything else, my curls lose their shape and end up frizzy and fuzzy.

what type of gel do you use?

right now i have a ton of split ends.. and i'm wondering if i got them cut off, and started not washing my hair every day, would i gradually make my hair healthier?

sorry for my long reply and all these questions!

Its ok lol Ill try answer your questions best I can
I wash my hair about every 3 days because I use a gel that holds them that long I use John Friedas Frizz Ease gel, and yes when it freshly dries it is a bit 'hard' or stiff lol I cant think of a better word, but what I do is use a little water based pomade on the ends that softens it without losing the gels hold so they are softer , and it gets softer throughout the days till I wash it again..

Sleepin right on my hair makes it looks fuzzy and lose shape as well just try sleeping on your stomach and move your hair out of the way lol I know it sounds a bit odd but this is what I always do, or sleep on my side or anyway I want really I just make sure I move my hair so Im not squashing it lol

If your roots look greasy maybe use less conditioner on your roots put most of it on your ends , I use Neutrogenas Triple Moisture line I use the normal conditoner mostly on my scalp and their Deep Treatment for the rest of my hair so extra moisture without being weighed down and I use a leave in Conditioner after but I dont put really any on my scalp just for my ends.

But yea try that use a tougher gel generously lol then just soften it with pomade and it shouldnt lose its power so itll hold for a couple days so you dont have to wash your hair so much, but itll still be soft and shiny...

Sorry for the long reply again lol hope I helped..

perfect timing. i was just on elle.com ( i have the same problem, only my hair is wavy so its like flat gross curls) and found this great great great article on it.
