Ok ive been relaxed for forever but i have yet to come up with a good way to prepare my hair/scalp for a relaxer. I did read in a book about afro hair to this is the only time to do this the stress "grease the scalp" with olive oil or vaseline if you dont have any olive oil lol. then blow your roots with blow dryer on the COOL setting. It works most of the time but i wanna know if anyone else knows of a way to prepare your hair for a relaxer . Oh i forgot to ass also dont drink caffinated drinks and dont exercise the day b4 or the day of the day you are gonna get your relaxer.

Don't wash, scratch, or manipulate your scalp for at least 5 days before the processing (unknown abrasions or cuts will sting, burn, and scab when the relaxer is placed on the scalp). Put shea butter or vaseline (use a pomade, oil will run) all around your hairline and back neck area. You should part hair into various sections and add the ointment directly onto the parted scalp skin. Pace your timing carefully, start timing from the moment the chemicals come in contact with your hair. Rinse thoroughly, use the neutralizer shampoo, and then a conditioner especially formulated for Black relaxed hair (Pantene has a whole line of this). After hair is dried, place a quarter sized drop of oil in your palm and rub both palms vigorously together to heat it up, and massage throughout your hair. Style as usual. I've been both relaxing and coloring my own hair since hair school. I refuse to trust a professional to chemically process my hair. I have mastered this early on. Happy relaxing!

i would not be adding oils or grease to your hair.

you should not wash your hair right before either (your natural oils will help protect you)

also your hair stylist should be putting some sort of barrier cream on your scalp, to help protect it from the relaxer, whihc i would leave them to do cause it will be a much cleaner job than trying to fumble around and base yourr scalp yourself

orangeeyecrayon I only do it because i have a VERY sensitive scalp and the only thing i found to work to protect my scalp really well is an oil or something like vaseline i dont like the idea of grease and oil but it protects my scalp i can tell a diff when i do and dont

Im too chicken to do my own relaxer LOL....
