I work in the garment industry, so I get a lot of free clothes or buy them below wholesale.
I live in a studio apartment and there's not a lot of room for furniture, so my money doesn't go for the home (I've got all the furnishings I need). Rent is high because it's Queens (NYC).
I don't spend very much on entertainment (I don't go see movies, plays, concerts, etc. I don't own a DVD player or DVDs, no video games, no cable, no IPod, don't really buy books). I tend to watch a lot of PBS, but do spend money on magazines and occasionally CDs, but that doesn't cost much. There's a ton of free activities you can do in NYC to keep you entertained.
I don't own a car (I think the price of gas this summer would have destroyed me).
I've been good about savings and investments, so I'm pretty secure (I have diabetes, so I'm conscientious about having a financial plan should I get very sick).
I agree with the other ladies, GWPs are the greatest thing ever. I have 10 lipsticks and I only bought one (the others were from various GWPs). I have 8 mascaras, but only bought one (GWPs again). I've never bought a moisturizer, but I've sent my mom at least 100 of them (GWPs yet again).
My biggest regular purchases are Prescriptives foundation and Laura Mercier Loose Powder. I buy them at full-price and don't always wait for GWPs. My reason behind this is that I'm so pale that there is no drugstore foundation or powder that looks right on me.
Other than that, I've worked hard, budgeted well, went through years of scrimping, so I don't mind treating myself to high-end. Plus, I also enjoy lots of budget items, too.
