I recently read a book about hair and it completely blew me away.

It gives you a complete guide on how to take care of your hair.

However, after reading this book I realized that not only my hairstylist but all the ones I've been to are doing hair the wrong way.

I tried to show it to my hair stylist but she doesn't listen.

What should I do?

how are your hair stylists doing it the wrong way?

and what does the book say?

have you ever considered that there is a possobility that the book could be wrong?

I was wondering that too...

im super curious as to what the book is and what it says,

im currently in cosmotology school, and i like to think i have a little more knowladge than the average person when it comes to hair (wheather or not that is true is yet to be determined)

so basicly i want to see how what i have learned jives with the book.

No, the book is not wrong.

At least not for me.

I'm referring specifically about the products she uses.

It's about perms.

The book is called The Beautiful Black Hair: Real Solutions to Real Problems--A Step by Step Instructional Guide by Shamboosie.

It says to use lye perms only and thats what I wanted to do but My hairstylist used a combination of both which dried my hair out.

Also you are supposed use perm on new growth but she puts in all over and say that this product supposedly protects my hair (it doesn't).

It's just a mess!

i cant really say about lye and non lye,

i use an aveda perm product on all clients i am not sure if it contains lye or not.

that is proboably more personal preference and hair type

as for the product on previously permed hair i think you are right that she is doing something wrong. As you know since you have had your hair permed before they put a base on your scalp and should put a base on any hair that has been perviously permed

while this is there to protect you in case the perming solution happens to get where it shouldnt be but if she is actually applying the product to the whole length i would sugest going to a new stylist just cause the base cant keep all that product out. also putting perm on the whole length just over processes the length of the hair and causes it to be more likely to be weakened.

Definitely find a stylist that meets your needs. A good stylist will understand you and listen to suggestions but don't be aggressive and try to tell them how to do their job. Be nice and say "Well, you know what..." Keep in mind that you are paying for this and if you want your money well spent, spend it on someone who actually takes into mind their customers as oppose to just doing what they want to do.
