i have no tips... as i was too much of a wuss back when i wanted to try it out... good luck.. however i love using it for the mehindi! OT i know.... lol!

Hey hey!!! Another henna head!

Hopefully you are using BAQ (body art quality) henna, and not that stuff from the box.

You can mix it with either lemon juice or yogurt to make a henna hair mask. Put the henna mud on your hair when the dye starts to release itself and work it in the hair. The dye should look brownish in the green henna mush. Do not wait too long to put the henna on your head, otherwise it will demise (it matures and cannot stick inside the hair shaft) and you will not get the full benefit.

Leave it on for at least 3-4 hours. Cover your head with a shower cap. You can use some heat on it to aid in absorption.

Hope that helps!

Pour the 4 oz. of Henna into a glass or plastic bowl. Gradually add boiling water. Use a wooden or plastic spoon to mix thoroughly to a creamy (but grainy) consistency. (More liquid can be added if mixture is too thick, it isn't an exact science). For the neutral henna, you may use 2 oz. in an application, then you will get two uses out of each container. The amount of water (coffee, tea, juice) you use is a matter of personal preference and does not affect the dying ability of the henna. Some people like henna runny and some people like it thick.

The time time left on the hair depends on what color you are trying to achieve

Thanks so much ladies. Nox, I think the one I got was multi purpose but next time I will buy the body art quality. My hair turned an amazing shade of burgundy-ish golshish brown. I LOVE IT! i let my hair air dry and I got these cute little curls. so cute.

Rlise, you really should try it. I freaked out before I got the tushka to do it. but it turned out well (I thought it would turn out green for some reason)

If the multi-purpose variety indicates that it can be used on the skin, then it is considered BAQ. The thing I love about henna is that the color can be customized by adding different herbs, like in my case, I use henna + indigo + cassia to get a very DARK brown with golden undertones, although in most pictures it looks quite black, which I don't mind either.

does anyone know how henna works on grey hair? just wondering...

I mixed 2 tablespoon of coconut oil, 2 tbsp on Lemon juice and 100 ml of henna. I have short hair (Well i consider it short) so I used 100 ml. You can gauge how much you think your hair needs. And I covered my hair with it. Like every little nook and corner of my hair. I left it on for 2 hours (I took a nap to help the waiting process).

My box of Henna says it turns gray hair into a nice golden tint. But like Nox said, you can also control the outcome of your hair by mixing some herbs into it. I am still a juvenile at hennaing so maybe Nox can give you a more indepth explanation. But thats how I did mine.

I use plain yogurt to mix mine. I like mine to be a 'mud-like' consistency. I mix the desired amount to the consistency I need, and then I wait for the dye to release. It looks like brownish water forming on in the green paste. It can take anywhere from 4-8 hours for BAQ henna to mature depending on temperature. PLEASE do not mix with a metal spoon or a metal bowl! Your mix would be ruined.

I work it into the hair, and then I put a shower cap on and let it do its magic!

With greys however, do not be alarmed of the initial result is a bit bright at first. Give it a couple days and it will oxidize to a beautiful rich, darker color. It will act as a natural highlight to the rest of the hair.

I myself like to use henna indigo and cassia to customize my color. Here is the place where I sometimes get my supplies if i can't get it locally:

Mehandi.com shop - Use Indigo Powder to Dye Hair Jet Black, safely, naturally, with no allergic reactions!

Oh wow. I clicked on that link, Nox. Its so expensive! I bought a pack of Henna for $2.99 at an indian store and its big enough to last me 4 - 5 more times.

. Like I said, I prefer to get it locally also, but when you're in a pinch...

Oh, I almost forgot to post this.

This is break down of how to use henna and other herbs to get different colors. Remember, these herbs do not lighten. They can only brighten the undertones or darken the natural color. Although henna itself is permanent, indigo tends to fades off after a while so you may need a refresher occasionally.

Natural gloss (for a shine boost and extra strength)- 100% cassia

Marigold Blonde- 1/3 henna, 2/3 cassia

Caramel Blonde - 1/4 henna, 1/4 indigo, 1/2 cassia

Copper- ½ henna, ½ cassia

Red (depends on your starting color)- 100% henna

Light Brown- 2/3 henna. 1/3 indigo

Medium Brown- ½ henna, ½ indigo

Burgundy- 2/3 henna, 1/3 indigo

Mahogany- 1/3 henna, 2/3 indigo

Dark Golden Brown - 2/3 indigo, 3/6 henna, 3/6 cassia

Sherry- ¼ henna, 3/4 indigo

Darkest brown/off-black (MY FAVORITE
biggrin.gif
) - two step: 50/50 henna/cassia first, then 100% indigo second time around

Black- two step: 100% henna first, then 100% indigo second time around.

It covers grey nicely, Bigen is henna. Remember to condition well, to avoid dryness.

smileno.gif
. He only gets a very limited supply, so you can understand... Be careful with stale material, it will not produce the same effect, make sure you always get a harvest date with whatever herbs you buy online.
