ARGH! i dyed my hair about a two weeks ago (as most of ya'll know lol) anyhoo it was almost black i was really happy with it! BUT it has faded to a mid/choc brown already! what the?? should it fade that quickly what can i do?

Nic

since your hair was so light befor your color is gonna fade, either get a filler put in there. or just put a temporay color every few weeks so you dont damage it

Definitely do a filler when you do dye it again. You might want to try either color protecting shampoo and conditioner or color depositing shampoo and conditioners. The depositing ones will add a little color back in and slow the fading. Don't shampoo your hair every day if you can. Try to as long as you can without shampooing. If you've been bleaching you hair then it would be porous and it'll be hard to get it to hold such a dark color.

thanks for the replies people. i just went and bought another dye LOL i know i shouldnt but i couldnt help it! next month i will go to the hairdressers and see what they can do for me anyway thanks!

I have the same problem with my hair too. It looks great black and then a few weeks later, it fades to a brown. I just re-dye mine!

I've wondered about that too. I had to dye my hair for a play and it was a darkkkk brown, and today my director saw me and asked me if I had dyed it back! I hadn't, but it has just faded so fast. The thing is, I used shampoo for dyed brown hair. And this happens EVERY time I dye it! I want to dye it again, but why should I do that and just waste the money? Is it possible that some hair just doesn't hold dye?

I am having the same problem. I have highlighted my hair for a long time. I decided to go back to natural so i used a medium brown. In a couple weeks it was lighter and kept lighting up every day. I went to a hair dresser and paid 150.00 for her to dye it. It did the same thing. I then got tired of it and decided to highlight again. Well, I am tired of that now so I am thinking about going to a brown/red (something like Rachel on One Tree Hill) but I am afraid it wont stay at all and I will just be burning up my hair. I think some hair doesn't hold dye but I am not sure why. I thought mine did not because I had bleached it so much but you would think bleaching it would make it grab color in the light areas and stick but it doesn't. I have never tried a filler. That might work.

you either need to get a color filler, or dye it with a lighter color first.

if your hair is drasticly lighter there wont be enough protien in your hair to grip the color and that is why it fades so fast

i think its best you re-dye it every so often...also use colour protect shampoo+conditioner and try not to use very hot water when your washing your hair as that fades the colour quick

I dyed mine a dark brown and it keeps going lighter. I am glad because some of it looked almost black. I like it once it fades a bit. I would be like you and do the same and redye it. I am bad about doing that.
