Well I previously posted that I'd dyed my hair from very blonde to brunette and I've decided I much prefer being blonde, as the colour fades very quickly I tried to prelighten my hair and use a colour, which would've been fine except I didn't notice the tiny writing on the hair colour packet saying that it wasnt suitable for prelightened hair, so I was left a lovely shade of orange! My mum used a bleach on it to try and lift the colour but I just ended up with yellow barbie doll hair instead which was hideous!

I had to dye it brown again because there was no way I was walking round with yellow hair lol, anyway I decided that I needed to phase out the dye and sought professional help from my hairdresser. They said that because my hair was so damaged they couldn't dye it and I would have to build up the condition of my hair over the next 4 weeks before they could consider a full head of highlights.

i'm now a lovely mousey shade of light brown and I feel so drab and disgusting! My hair is very dry and has no shine so I really need some good tips on how to build up my hair so that I can have it done in a few weeks time, I've bought a Paul Mitchell rebuilding treatment to use twice a week and am going to avoid washing it frequently, sticking to a couple of times a week, and rinsing with water and using conditioner everyday instead - will this help?!

If I were you I would do a protein deep treatment followed by a conditioning deep treatment(using a heat cap if you can), then keep doing those weekly. During the week use a gentle shampoo if you must shampoo, though I would try and skip days as often as possible. At the big Rite Aid I saw more of a selection of sulfate free shampoos, which are going to be much more gentle. In my opinion baby shampoos are not gentle. Gentle on eyes yes, not on hair. I would also get a moisturizing shampoo, and maybe some jojoba oil. You could put a drop in your hands, smooth them around, and then apply to your hair working from the ends upward.

ETA: I meant moisturizing conditioner.

I agree you need a protein reconstructor followed by a deep conditioner. I would deep condtion every time you wash your hair. Do the reconstructor 1ce a week. Lay off the heating tools. It will get better!

Back in the day, I used to have really long hair past my waist and wasn't allowed to trim the ends (long story...) so to keep it healthy I would get scraps of animal fat from the grocery store (just ask the meat department...they'll give them to you for free), then I would rinse my hair in hot water, work the fat into my hair, and wrap it all up in a towel. After an hour or so, wash your hair with a little dish soap to get the grease out and rinse clean, wash with shampoo like normal, and then finish with a good conditioner. Your hair will feel brand new.

You have overcolored you hair, now it is time to let it rest, and get some deep intense conditioning., Try something like a restorative hair mask

I agree with the protein treatment, but don't deep condition everyday as previously mentioned. Doing that will only dry it out more. Just don't try to do too much at once. Good luck!

PS.... I recently triple bleached my hair and it was left a bit dry, twice a week I use Queen Helenes Cholesterol, and it makes a HUGE difference.

I know it sounds a little gross but it works really well and it's a lot better for your hair than treating it with a bunch of chemicals and unnatural products.

thanks for the tips everyone! Well I used Olive Oil last night and wrapped my head in cling film lol, I left it on for about an hour and I must admit my hair feels much softer today and is shinier! So I'm going to do that two to three times per week, I also have Aussie 3 minute miracle restoring treatment, and I'm going to only shampoo my hair 2-3 times a week if I can get away with it, and use the conditioner every day. I have a Paul Mitchell reconstructing treatment that I need to use 1-2 times per week as well and using a serum when I've blow dried my hair. I'm soo desperate to get it dyed back to blonde and only have 3 and a half weeks to get it as conditioned as possible, I think I'll cry and not leave the house again until it's done if they can't do it at the end of April!

But it's definitely feeling much much silkier today after using the olive oil so will do that again this week! xx

try the its a 10 hair mask and also use pureology shampoos and conditioners for color treated hair.

In addition. massage your hair with lots of coconut oil before you sleep and tie it up with a scarf or syran wrap. this is just to add more moisture to it and make it more supple. wash it out in the morning. And if you want to do more, after you massage the oil in, wrap a warm towel around your head for 20 mins or till the towel cools. this just ensures proper penetration of the oil into the hair shaft.

make this hair mask. its really good for moisturising, nouroushing and shining your hair up:

2tbsp olive oil

2tbsp vinegar

1tbsp honey

1 egg

(and if you want) 1tbsp lemon juice

mix it all together and stick it in your hair. it really stinks and then just rinse it out. leave it over night (your hair will be a bit greasy even though the vinegar gets rid of a lot (if not all) of the olive oil and then next morning wash it with some shampoo. and voila fab hair!

He he stinky hair - but I'll try anything at this stage

I may also get some coconut oil - is that more nourishing than Olive oil?

There is a huge thread on the benefits of coconut oil. I am not as devoted to olive oil as I am to coconut oil!

Well I will have to take a browse at that thread then! Now just the matter of finding some coconut oil lol! We're a bit limited over here - I don't think they'd sell it in Boots but it's worth an ask I suppose!

I'm feeling so drab with my light brown/patchy blonde hair now the colour is fading out. Would it be worth getting one of the Wella Shaders to just tide me over until I can get it done blonde? Just to add a bit of warmth back to it??

I'm in the exact same boat. Except I was all blonde and asked for subtle lowlights. Well, needless to say it was practically ALL brown with a few blonde streaks left. It's faded into this brassy mess and I know I can't redo it until I fix all this damage.

My hair was really dry and damaged and I started using L'oreal Pro Nutrigloss, and I just got Nexxus weightless leave in conditioner. These two products have really changed my hair for the better. I really like this nexxus stuff. I haven't cut my hair in about 4 months and this stuff makes my ends really soft. I highly suggest nexxus leave in.
