Help me highlight?

i want to hightlight my own hair for my birthday but i want to hair from those of you that have done it on your own.Was it easy and what kind did you use?Also,since i have dark hair do i need to bleach the strands first?

I highly recommend going to the hairdresser over doing it at home as it can go horribly wrong (that's been my personal experience every time)! L'Oreal Color Expertise is a recommended brand though for at-home highlighting. Just remember, the color you see isn't exactly the color you'll get. Playing with hair bleaches can be extremely tricky, and it can cause severe damage to your hair.
