I like changing the way my hair is colored every so often because I get bored easily. LOL

The past two times I have went to my hair colorist, I have told her what I wanted and she told me that it was not a good idea because of this and that. This last time, I had blonde highlights and brown lowlights and saw this picture in the book that I REALLY liked. It was a girl with dark brown all over color with a few thin streaks of blonde and bright red in the front, starting about midway down the hair strand and going to the end. I showed her the picture and told her that's what I wanted and this is how the conversation went:

Colorist: So, what are we doing today?

Me: I REALLY LOVE this look! I want to have this done on my hair this time.

Colorist: Ok. Are you going to have your hair cut the same way that she is wearing it?

Me: Well, no. I don't like my bangs in my face like that because when I bend over to bathe the dogs at work, my hair gets in my face.

Colorist: If you don't get your hair cut like that, it's really not gonna show the color.

Me: :kopfkratz:

Colorist: Plus, it will really create some damage in your hair.

Me: (thinking to myself) Ummm... Doesn't bleach damage my hair?

Me to Colorist: Ok, how about this... Blonde highlights with chocolate lowlights?

Colorist: That sounds good, let me go mix up the color.

WTH? The color won't show, how? :bs:

I'm gonna try to get dark chocolate brown with a few thin red streaks here and there this time, but it probably won't work out. :sleepyhead:

I'd go to another salon for a consultation. I don't understand why you can't get the front partially dyed red and the rest dyed brown with a few blond highlights.

A good colorist can manage all three.

It is possible that the way a cut is done tends to make the colors more noticed. Although, she could've been blowing smoke up your butt! I know when I did chunky highlights, I had to part my hair like I wanted the highlights to show, and then apply them. Otherwise, the look wouldn't have been what I wanted.

What's weird is that she wanted me to cut my hair where I told her I wanted the red and blonde highlights. I have more hair in that area. I don't know, I'm still confused. LOL I might try another colorist next week.

your colorist should work with you. she should help facilitate the look you want but alter it so that it will work with your hair style and your complexion. If she is not doing either of these things maybe it is time to get a new colorist.

oh also... it was proboably a modern mullet you saw, with a lot of layering in the hair and esentially peakabo highlights that were extreamly thin. while yes this would be hard to emulate with out a similar cut she should be able to work with you to fine a beter location for the highlights and a better width so they will be more visible but still give you the look you want

It was a long, layered haircut with side-swept bangs. I think I'm gonna try someone else this time, she is just not willing to work with me much. She is so awesome at what she does though, which sucks.
