So....from what I can gather a lot of MUT ladies have mastered makeup, but struggle with hair. I figured I could help a little. I suck at hair, but maybe if we challenge ourselves and actually practice we can get better!!
Mindy suggested a Hair style of the day thread....Thoughts on that?. Or maybe we can post pics of celeb hair and try to recreate it. I know from experience that practice makes perfect...so let's try.
Here are a few looks to kick things off!
“This look is really soft and sexy,†says Fekkai. To do it, smooth an antifrizz serum on damp hair, then blow-dry while combing with your fingers (no brush for now) until it’s about 70 percent dry. Now grab a big, round brush and blow out your hair, section by section. Next take 2-inch chunks of hair and wrap the bottom half of each one around a large-barreled curling iron. “The trick to making the waves look really natural is to alternate their direction—do one backward, then one forward until you’re all done,†Fekkai says. Finish by running your fingers through the curls to loosen them, and mist on a little hairspray.
Work an antifrizz serum into damp hair and blow it smooth with a big, round brush. Make a deep side part, then pull your hair into low side ponytail. Take a 2-inch section, lightly mist it with hairspray and wind it around a large-barreled curling iron. Repeat until you’ve curled all the hair in your side pony, then pin each curl back up by the elastic. “Leave a few sections pinned more loosely so they fall lower, and you’ll get the sexy look that Penélope has,†says Fekkai.
look that’s low-maintenance and sexy? Sold! Shampoo and pat hair dry with a towel, then apply an anti-frizz product. Tousle hair as you blow-dry until it’s just damp. Now make a side part, brush your bangs toward the opposite ear (key for getting a little volume on top), pull hair into a low side ponytail and secure with a band. Grab a piece of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around the band to hide it, bobby pin and let hair air-dry.
Alicia’s working her hair texture to create a modern updo,†says Fekkai. First shampoo and pat hair dry with a towel. Now rub on a curl-enhancing cream and dry hair with a diffuser to bring out curls. Pull hair into a low ponytail, then separate it into three sections. Take one section, twist it loosely, and bobby-pin it by the base of your ponytail. Repeat with the other two sections and spray on a little hairspray. Don’t try too hard, says Fekkai. “This should be imperfect and look slightly messy.â€
Blow out hair, then pull into a high ponytail at your crown (if you have side-swept bangs, like Gabrielle, leave them out). Take a section of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around the base to hide the elastic; secure it with a small bobby pin. Give your pony extra polish by smoothing a dime-size dab of glossing cream on the tail. “It’ll get rid of flyaways and make your ponytail look dressy—not like something you’d wear to the gym!†says Fekkai. P.S.: If your hair’s not miles long, try a clip-on pony like Put On Pieces Pony Style Swing
