Hello, I need some advice.. I want to dye my hair red (a "natural" red color, not some funky stuff), but I'm not sure what shade I should get.. Anyone have some suggestions? (pics would help)

Here's a pic of my natural hair color..

Would really appreciate any help! Thanks

I bet if you dyed your hair a lighter golden brown shade, it would come out a nice medium auburn.

It looks like you have natural reddish tones in your hair already so both going a tad lighter and more gold might be all you need.

Post a pic if dye your hair red please

Your hair definitely is reddish already. I think if you dyed your hair a more reddish-brown color the same darkness or a tad lighten than your hair color is now, it would look good.

I think you should go for it. To me, red hair looks best on pale girls and you could definitely pull it off well.

I was thinking of dying my hair a natural reddish color, too, but I got a perm and dying my hair after a perm would fry it... so I'm holding out haha

That sounds interesting.. Do you have a picture as example? I can't quite see it in my head ^^ But I'm a little reluctant to go lighter, I hear it's more damaging on the hair.
My hair has no red tones in it at all though.. I can see how it may look like it in the pic I posted, but it's more like a very cold, greyish dark dark blonde.. Here, I found a clearer picture of my color..

I still think your hair has nice golden tones in it.

The gold in hair colour, combined with the gold in your hair will make it a subtle auburn colour.

I constantly struggle with this theory as I love gold tones, but I have natural red tones in my hair.

So I sometimes get a nice colour when I dye it and sometimes, not so much.

The only picture I can show you of my hair is a thread a started recently about Vitamin c lighten hair colour. The "after" picture looks a lot better, although I still dislike my hair colour.

cute outfit!! lol

the best way to go red naturally is to use henna! Henna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia you can buy it in LUSH stores or in the body shop (i think), or even maybe in drugstores with the hairdying stuff. it's completely natural and really good for your hair. you can get it in a variety of colours, it comes in a range from deep chestnut brown to bright firey red.

Oh, I didn't mean like "natural" dye or anything. Just that I want the color to LOOK "natural" on me (not a "punk" or violet-shade of red).

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I found some nice pictures, I like these colors:

As a redhead, I'd go with a lighter auburn, almost leaning into a strawberry blonde. The super reds (top, bottom right) aren't natural red shades and will probably be a bit too harsh with your skintone (I'm a similar skin color to you). It's always best to take a shade change a few steps at a time, don't go super super drastic on the first try!

i know you did! lol i'm just recommending henna to you because it gives you a natural look. it works with your own natural hair colour and imo looks far more realistic and lasts longer than hairdye you get in boxes. my sister has hair the same colour as yours naturally and she uses henna, people ask her all the time if she's a natural redhead.

Just be forewarned that with henna - you need to commit!

Henna can't be stripped from the hair easliy like most other hair dyes. It's recommended that henna users grow out their henna after they tire of it.

I personally love henna and have been using it for years. It gives me great color and doesn't hurt my scalp or hair like chemical dyes did.

It's just not for everyone and I don't want you to be stuck with a color you don't love.

Pardon to the english talking people here. I know I am more than a little bit rude now, but I must take this in our mutual native tongue; Norwegian.
