I know I'm a bit late seeing as how its already January, but better late then never! The winter months can cause havoc on your hair...what was once soft and silky can now be rough and coarse. Read below for quick fixer-uppers to combat dryed out winter hair!
The problem:
Static: This happens for one of three reasons - your hair is either extremely dry, you have product build up on the shaft or this could also be due to keepin your noggin warm from a hat.
The soultion:
-If you have static due to drynesss, try using a moisturizing treatment once or twice a week. A varnish or serum would also be a wise idea for those with thick or coarse hair.
- If your static is due to a product overload on the shaft, you should invest in a clairifying shampoo. Once all the gunk has been removed, you will see and feel the world of a difference.
- If your static is from wearin a hat this ones a quick simple fix. Next time, run a dryer sheet along the inside of your hat before putting it on. You can also run a dryer sheet through your hair but this can often leave a thick residue. Also try misting your hair with a hydrating leave in conditioner pre-hat.
The problem
Dry Scalp Your scalp is itchy and you feel flakey. This occurs to roughly 50% of the population in the winter months.
The soultion
Try using a zinc based anti-dandruff shampoo/conditioner once a week. Zinc is fabulous for calming the scalp and getting flakes under control, but sadly it doesnt do much good for the hair. Since FDA regulations do not allow high levels of zinc in anti dandruff products(canadian regulations allow less then US), leave the shampoo/conditioner on the scalp for 2-3 mins to get maximum benefits.
The problem
Dry Hair
It's bound to happen, wind and artifical heat wreck havoc on your hair sucking out all the good stuff and leaving it dry and brittle.
The soultion Introduce a good moisturizing treatment into your normal daily routine. Some faves are: Redken all soft heavy cream, AG Ultramoist, Joico Moisture Recovery.
Happy winter hair!
