I'm looking into ammonia-free, hydrogen peroxide-free, non-permanent gentle options for coloring/tinting the hair, that lasts through at least 5 shampoos (more if of course better).

There are sooo many options, it's overwhelming!!! There are semi-permanent dyes, glazes, glosses, tints, rinses, color depositing conditioners....!!!!!!!

Which products are the best? I've been looking into Clairol Jazzings and Wella Color Charm, not sure if those are any good though.

As far as shades go--I'm looking for super rich almost-black chocolate brown (http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.ya...ly/wimprec.jpg, http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.ya..._tyler/sag.jpg)

Thanks in advance

Edited to Add: There is a Sally's near me, so I do have access to most things.

Many of the at-home color companies (L'Oreal, Clariol, etc.) make temporary colors. Temporary colors (Level 1) generally last up to 24 shampoos, and semi-permanent (Level 2) tends to last longer. There's also mousses these days you can buy in order to get a temporary color. My favorite brand is Garnier (I've only tried Nutrisse as 100% Color came out after I quit coloring my hair), and they have a lot of fruit oils in their colors. I've personally never seen Wella in stores, unless you can only find it in beauty supply stores like Sally's.

Clarioal Herbal Essence has one. It suppose to last 6 to 7 washes. There was a thread done on it recently. Also check the reviews as well for the product.

i tried clairol natural instincts non permanent color. and now my hair is super black. it was black before because thats my natural hair color. but now that i've put that its realllllly black. my next move would be to color it blue black...that would look even more black!

I wnated to try teh Clairol but I realized it has hydrogen peroxide, so with repeated use it would lighten my hair...ideally I'd like to find someting which wouldn't alter my hair at all (i.e. after the color went away my hair was exactly the same as it was before)

yea clairol does have hydrogen peroxide. i didnt even realize that until i bought the box home! if i knew i don't think i would have got it. What u could do is ask someone at the store to help u out. i suppose they might probably have some idea.

Depending on what color your hair is naturally even a temporary color may stay with your hair. I have a friend with dark blonde hair and she decided to use a temp dye to color her hair purple for Halloween and it was still purple after Christmas. She ended up coloring over it with a permanent dye because it would not go away.

She ended up coloring over it with a permanent dye because it would not go away. My hair is naturally near-black. I'm looking to add warmth/richness, not major color change. But if I'm not happy with it, or wnat to go back to my old color, I don't want those warm tones to stay in my hair, and I don't want to lighten my hair (as dyes w/ hydrogen peroxide might).
