Flat iron sizes..?

I've been thinking about getting a nice new flat iron, I've had mine since high school and it's probably drug store bran as well. After seeing all the tutorials/versatility of these I'm all for a new one. However, I don't know what the best size is for curling/flipping etc. I've looked at several but they never say the size just the brand/how to do the style.. So what do ya'll think would be the best size?

A one inch iron is perfect for straightening, curling and flipping. Also look for spring loaded plates with rounded edges which really help in the use of all the styles.

I have really long hair (Tailbone length), would 1" also straighten my hair in a decent amount of time, or should I go with the 1 1/4? - I've read that it still does flips/curls..

I'd go with the 1 1/4 for long hair.
