hey,

I have really thin, limp hair and poker straight hair. my scalp is oily, sometimes i have to wash it almost 4 times in a week... say if i going out...

i dont mind the washing that much.. but it's really limp!!! curls dont stay in my hair. so i sometimes blow dry it.. but prefer natural drying on other days.

i got highlights so tht wud make the hair thicker.. it helped a bit but the front of my head looks greasy half the time n really flat and unkept, even if i comb very few hours!!!

i just saw some pictures of me... my hair looks so sad...

i totally believe hair is ones crowning glory n all tht...

any ideas how i can keep my hair looking well not dull... i use a volumizing shampoo.. pantene.. .but no conditioner... i have tried n tried.. they all weigh my hair down.

should i try wearing it differently? i usually part it in the middle or on the side...

p.s i am new to this so i hope this post is going in the right place...!

Conditioners are a big problem, i use one maybe once, twice a week (C for shine from Yes to Carrots). Or just apply a few drops of coconut oil on your ends. You can also try clay masks, green especially for your scalp.

One volumising shampoo i'm testing right now is from Fructis and doesn't contain silicones (to me, that's what weighs the hair down, not to mention it has a tendency to build up on my scalp). It doesn't do much for the dry ends, but works nicely at the roots.

I also try to switch shampoos frequently, and i prefer to use mild ones, so it doesn't overdry the roots (to avoid more sebum to compensate) and then i use oils on the ends, mostly coconut, or baobab, camelia. Once a week, i apply oil on my hair and let it sit for the night, the next morning i wash my hair.

hey

thanks magosienne...

i ll definitely try the clay mask...

but the oil... wont the dust and the pollution stick to the hair even more??

i sometimes use almond oil an hour before hair wash... but i have been hearing theories about oil making the roots weak!!! someone suggested fresh aloe vera instead... but i couldnt stand the smell and the hard work!.. lol

It might be a good idea to go to a good salon and getting a new haircut if you want... By getting an inch or two off the old hair and maybe adding some layers would help add bounce and volume back your hair. A stylist should be also be able to recommend some hairstyles and ways to style your hair to give it volume.

You should not avoid using conditioner as your hair could also benefit from the use of a conditioner that contains proteins which will help thicken up fine hair. There are conditioner for fine limp hair that should be suitable for this.

While you are styling your hair add in a product that is formulated to thicken or volumize hair and a texturizing product. The volumising product should be applied to the roots to give your hair instant lift. texturizing products helps roughen the smooth texture of your hair to help hold styling attempts better. This is useful if, after heat-styling, your hair looks completely flat by mid-morning.

You could also wrap damp hair around Velcro rollers and blow dry the rollers to give your hair some volume...

Hope this helps...
