I have pictures from a Christmas Eve that we did it with a bunch of my husband's family!!

A q-tip isn't indicated to clean the ear. Actually, ear doctors (otorrino-etc) say that the best way to clean the ear is using your elbow - it means that you shouldn't use anything to clean the ear , specially q-tips (it probably was something created by q-tips companies to make it sell more).

I know, but I am just such a sucker. I've found that tissue works better and doesn't pose any potential harm. It just grosses me out when you can see the wax inside of someone's ear, and since I can't see inside my own ear, I feel the need to try, just in case!

It seems that children more often are in need of (trained) professional ear cleaning than are adults. I don't have any professional ear cleaning done now, simply because I don't ever have any wax build up. They are always very clean when the doctor looks in them for my checkups. I think most people are like this as they enter adulthood, there is less sticky buildup as there is in children. I just clean the visible part of my ear with a washcloth and I'm good to go.
