I had it done two weeks ago and I was surprised to see the results, I was like ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I clean my ears everyday!!!

My husband helped me and we actually followed the instructions very carefully. We got the candles in a health store.

I felt sooo much better after that

I've heard of that before when I worked in a hair salon. The lady who did my nails also worked there, and she told me about it. She said it doesn't hurt, and it's great for getting the excess wax out. I've never tried it myself though.

I had it done several years ago and it felt like a release of pressure after it was finished. I could definately hear better and I just felt way better! I would definately recommend finding somebody who knows what they are doing.

I actually read about this last week. From the description, it sounded pretty hard to do. It sounds interesting, but I would be worried that something would go terribly wrong.

I´ve seen this being done on TV and I agree it looked kinda neat cause all the stuff came out but I doubt it has the same results on everybody. I guess this is more of a "mental relief" to think that your ears are squeaky clean now, there´s barely any health benefit to it

Then don't knock if you haven't tried it yourself yet.
Of course the risks outweigh the benefits if you have someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Open heart surgery risk outweigh the benefits if you have a waitress perfom the operation instead of a surgeon. Same concept.

My mother is a medical professional, and she has candled my ears as a child, and I will say that the benefits totally dwarfed the risks.

Ear candling dates all the way back to the year 2500 B.C. Here's some info for those interested.

I've done my friends and families ears before and besides all the wax that is pulled out, you'd be surprised how much candida comes out, too. The wax doesn't bother me so much but it's the candida that i'd rather not have in there.

I know that it's not really related, but i learned last class how to wash the ear using simple things

I got quite happy with the class

Just to share

And i imagine that having ear candling must be fun

I have always wanted to try this. Using a q-tip is just so unsatisfying bc it seems that nothing ever comes out! I know wax has to be in there somewhere...my friend and her entire family does this every Thanksgiving, lol. I think I am most tempted by the "squeaky clean" concept as Andi said.

And you light the end farthest from your ear? How does it burn? Just like a candle? And it takes 8-30 min? How do you know when it's done?
I think my hunny might need this. He's always complaing that he can't hear anything from being a DJ, but I think this might help.

Yes, it's a hollow candle and you light the top part which is farthest from your ear. As it burns, you cut the top part off into a bowl of water. Well, that's how I do it, anyways. You keep cutting above the flame until it burns down to about 4 inches or so and then you completely cut it off or pull it out and extinguish it. I'm always all excited to roll the candles open and see what's inside. We all gather around to go, "Ooooh! Awww!" lol

Unrolling it after sounds so gross, but I'd probably want to see too! LOL!

I have heard of ear candling, and have heard nothing good about it. If you go to a ENT (Ear/nose/throat) doctor/otolaryngologist, they have a skinny long wire they can put in your ear that is "safer" than ear candling.

i never heard of this either,i sure learn alot here, my husband did pour a little baby oil in his ear once and i said what are you doing!! and he said that his ear hurt and this helps! i never tried it and most likely never will but his mom is very old school and she swears by this

At the end we all gathered around too, lol, we cut it open with scissors to see the gross stuff that came out, it was not that much (riiiiiiiiiiiight!, no, really

) but I never thought I had that stuff inside eww

Sounds very interesting. I've wanted to try it, but I don't trust my boyfriend to do it right so I would end up doing it on myself, and I'm not sure if that is the safest thing to do.
