Everyone at one point in their life has left their hair stylist unhappy with the results. Whether it be miscommunication on the clients end, or misunderstanding on the stylists end - in the end no one ends up happy. So I thought I'd give some do's and don't's when speaking with your stylist...hey you never know, it could prevent a hair disaster

Do:*Bring your stylist a picture of a hairstyle or hair colour that you are interested in achieving;

Don't:* Say to your stylst 'I want my hair like Ashlee Simpson' he/she may still think Ashlee is blonde, or even brunette. Celebs change their looks so often that its at times hard to keep up to date...a picture as a reference works much better!

Do:*Make it clear to your stylist how much hair you are willing to get cut off the length;

Don't:*Say things such as 'just cut off the damaged parts' or 'just a trim' - what you think are dead ends and what stylists know dead ends actually are are very different...what you may think is an inch of damage, might actually be 3 inches of damage

Do:*Speak up if you are concerned about what the stylist is doing

Don't:*Be afraid to ask questions; It's YOUR hair, YOU are the one who has to live with it, not us.

And most importantly.....DON'T leave unhappy....if you are truly unhappy with your new hair, say something. We can't read your minds

the last thing we want is for you to go home and be upset with the work we've done. Don't be afraid of offending us, our goal is to make you happy and we cant do so if you are afraid to speak up!

Hope this helps a bit!

Good stuff. I remember this one stylist who had to cut my hair because the one I go to wasn't there. I specifically told her do not cut me side bangs and even showed her what I meant. I guess she has a different opinion on what side bangs are. Also cutting my hair very uneven. Oh well, it's grown out now. I guess everyone usually gets at least 1 hair cut in their lifetime they aren't happy about.

But those are good Do's and Don't's though. Also my stylist told me to never say "oh just cut off an inch" physically show them how much you want to cut off because what's an inch to them may not be an inch to you.

I don't have a stylist!! Jim cuts it the same way every time..... $12!! lol

I COMPLETELY agree with all of the above statements and would also like to add one myself (being a hairstlylist). If you are getting color done especially for the first time, make sure they bring out a color book with swatches so you can show them what color you like....red, blonde or whatever may mean one color to you and another to the stylist. Make sure you both are on the same page. And remember we are only beauticians not magicians

Great advice, i deffo agree with the one about how much you want cut off. My hairdresser if very sissor happy haha and gets caried away chopping if i just say cut of the dead ends, so i always make sure i tell him exactly how much i want cut off.

Great advice Gina! Especially about the trim, I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have gone for a trim and half my hair has been hacked off...eek!

Thanks, those are great suggestions. Lol, i'm so afraid of getting out half bald i enter and say i want a trim and you're allowed to cut until that level (i point it with my hand).

Honestly if my hair is totally damaged, i say my goodbyes while shampooing and then let's cut everything, i trust the hairdresser to know how much there is cut, even if it means 10 centimeters.

Definitely good tips. Yeah my inch may not be the same as your inch! I'm quite clear on what I want (or rather don't want). I'm a bit..territorial about my hair. I found a fantastic stylist that I love, she really makes sure things are going well and clears up any gray areas (your inch is not my inch thing) and she's not very discriminating with my long hair (never suggests cutting it off etc as I've heard many others do with hair past waist)

true that hairego, i've seen it a million times the clients go up to my mum and are like "blah blah blahi want this style" and they get it done and they react like they are super happy and when the leave out the door their all crying like "i hate that b*tch she made my hair so gross"

I'm getting my hair cut today! I'm nervous! LOL. I am going to show them pictures, though! Thanks!

I love my stylisy/hairdresser ,been going to her for years. but sometimes she annoys the hell out of me. i say trim, she says no need. dont..

and when i want a good short haircut, she just trims.

one day i actually told her to just hack off my hair, just do it. she gave met that am crazy look. but did it anyway. im glad she did cuz ma hair actually feels better/healthier.

yeah thank you for the advices,

last year my hair are natural medium darker blond and i do blond hilight

i decided to make my hair my natural color,so i went to this hairdresser,the guy

did a color except it was too dark,and i end up going to another salon,the hairdresser

lady told me you could go back ihe will do it for free,she said i had some i can t remeber

green or another in my hair,wich i guess was not a good thing,but you know i m sorry i didnt see

myself tell this hairdresser guy look can you do the color again,i have some green and its too dark

it is not my style and i was afraid that if it didnt work the first time it might be worst,so i end up

pay twices,but the lady hairstylist did a great job,and two months later i got hilights from her

that look great.

i guess i m too nice,it was a lot of money to spend.
