Let me break my hair history down for you as briefly as possible, lol.

Natural color: medium/dark reddish brown

first, i went dark dark brown, then red and dark brown underneath, then red and blonde underneath, then red all over, then dark brown, then light brown, then bleach blonde, then very recently a strange burgandy color that was an accident, and am now at a warm, dark red color. all this has been over the period of several years, mind you. i'm not that insane! lol. also, besides the red color i have currently, i've had every hair coloring done by a salon professional.

i'm really sick of this red color. it's fading a lot and looking pretty dingy and i'm not sure at all what i should do to it. i thought about using a color stripper like Color Zap, though I know they can be damaging and turn your hair an unexpected color, i thought it might be easier to dye over it afterward? i really just want to take out as much red as i can before i dye it another color, because red clings to my hair like nobody's business. when i went blonde i had to have it bleached three times. if i used some type of color remover would that help at all or just cause something catastrophic?

sorry this is a little long, thanks to anyone who reads and can possibly help! <3

Your hair colour history sounds a lot like mine.

I have removed darker hair colour deposits with a powdered vitamin c.

It will not make undyed hair become lighter.

It's not harmful to the hair and you'll see that it really works.

Mix one part vitamin C powder to two parts shampoo.

Vitamin C powder can be found at health food stores. Purchase at least $3 so you'll have enough if you want to repeat.

Put measured shampoo in a bowl (1/2 cup). Add 1/4 cup vitamin c powder, mixing with a fork to form a frothy paste. Work this mixture completely into your hair and cover with plastic. Leave in for 2 hours.

Rinse out, then shampoo and condition. Repeat the process if required.

If you try my suggestion, let me know how it works for you.

thanks so much! i'll try this asap and get back to you.
