I've been forever looking for something that actually did something for my curls. ALL the drugstore brands that are supposed to "tame frizz" and "shape curls" basically load their products with cones and do nothing for my hair. Well, after years I finally found something I love and im not going back. Ever.

I got it at a professional beauty store (whatever you call them) where licensed beauticians buy their products. My sister works at one. It's called Deva curl. A line from Deva concepts. They have a whole line of shampoos conditioners and products (not just for curly hair, but for color treated, brunettes, etc)

If you've never heard of Deva Concepts, heres a brief look on what they're all about:

"We took the Poo out of shampoo making it possible to cleanse and hydrate without the use of the harsh detergents that are found in conventional shampoos. Whether your hair is curly, wavy, straight or chemically processed, there is a Deva product that is right for you! Choose from DevaCurl, DevaColor or DevaCare, and let your hair enjoy the benefits of botanically infused and sulfate-free technology

DevaCurl - Botanically infused, 100% sulfate-free cleansers, conditioners and stylers. Great for all hair types

DevaColor - Botanically infused, 100% sulfate-free and color enhancing cleansers and conditioners. For natural, color treated and chemically processed hair.

DevaCare - Color preservation. Botanically infused, 100% sulfate free, vitamin C enriched cleansers, conditioner and stylers. Great for all hair types.

They arent lying when they say it hydrates. The actual shampoo itself is labelled as a "conditioning cleanser". It doesn't sud, but it doesnt just stay in one spot either. It gets the job done if you wet it really good first. It looks and feels like a conditioner, yet acts as a shampoo. (Thats brilliant) It's the first shampoo i've ever had that made my hair soft after rinsing it out, like a conditioner! Usually shampoos make it feel like it needs to be conditioned badly right after. This makes it feel like i've already conditioned. I've tried a few different natural hair care lines that really did not make my hair feel good. This stuff works BETTER than anything i've used. It makes it super soft. The products are cone free too, I believe, I havent seen any in the ingredients. It's just really, really good for your hair. My hair has never felt better, or looked better (naturally curly)

Now I still get frizz, it's not a MIRACLE worker, but it's much much better. My hair will always be frizzy, and i've realized that. Im one of many curly girls who were cursed with this, but im coming to terms with it!

There isnt anything I can say bad about these products, except the price, if you arent getting a discount like I do! By the way, they smell AMAZING. They all have a different scent, which is kind of cool...and never boring.

The bottles are pretty cute too. I really recommend this to ANYONE, especially curly girls - or girls who are looking for a no poo or low poo. (They have both)

Great article. I wish sometimes I could have curly hair! I could spend 2 hours curling it and it wouldn't look curled.

Ooh those shampoos sound good! I'm going to have to see if Sallys carries them.

Have you tried curling it with a 1 inch straightener? I do that with my chi and then hairspray the hell out of it, and it holds pretty much all day. For some reason curling irons never work that well for me.

Haha, article.

Minders - you gotta give me the hookup on this. I've been telling my mom how you've said no-poo is really good and she asked me what products don't have them but I'm clueless.

Most say no poo on the bottle. They advertise that **** cause people want it. I know this other stuff doesn't have poo either, Brocato Cloud 9. I don't like it as much though.

Drug store is full of sulfates! Bad bad bad.

I would like to hook you up, but I don't know how. Im in Canada and I can barely even hook myself up right now haha. I can buy some for you when I get back in april if you gimme some moolah, it's still expensive...but way cheaper than salon price. I buy the huge ass bottles because I run through it like nothing since the shampoo doesnt sud and the conditioner, well I load my hair with that anyway.

Is there anything for straight hair? ...nevermind, im mega broke LOL

I've been intrigued by the "no poo" method, but I have sort of fine hair that needs to be washed every day or it will get oily. Does this method weigh your hair down at all, or make it appear greasy?

I have heard of this through the Naturally Curly website. I actually didn't care for this particular line, but I do know that many have had great results with it. I have naturally curly hair and my HG hair product is Curl Keeper. Best. Hair serum. EVER.

It made my hair feel like straw and made it super frizzy.....the sampoo girl has curly hair and swears by the stuff.....so I spent like 30 someting bucks on the line (maybe more I don't remember) and I was pretty disappointed.
I think it works if you have a certian texture to your hair. Mine is on the corse side and can be really frizzy if not dealt with properly....The natural texture isn't soft at all and I need the silicones to make it feel soft....without them my hair just returns to it's strawlike frizzy texture........no, it's not damaged....that's just my hair....

The girl that does my hair commented on how my curls looked one day when I came in...and asked what I was using on it....I said Pantene and she gasped "OMG that stuff is horrible for your hair....it's got silicones in it"....which is true....but I need the -cones, and -siloxanes and all that good stuff.....the coating it leaves on some peoples' hair weighs it down, I agree....but I need it on mine.....I've tried the no poo, sulfate free stuff and nothing compares to my beloved Pantene....plus it's way cheaper....

Glad it worked for you....I really did like the concept.....

Funny, I have coarse hair too actually. The cones never did anything for me. My hair is not a normal curly type. I guess just different strokes for different folks.

No and they have a low poo shampoo recommended for oily hair that you could use..it doesnt have all the conditioning the no poo has but still isnt harsh on your hair. So it wouldnt weigh it down like the no poo, but my hair is very hard to weigh down cause it's so thick - so I don't know if the no poo would weigh yours down

I don't believe anybody needs harsh detergents anyways. All shampoo does is cleanse. It's mostly about the conditioner.

I stick to Tresseme - but I'm still intrigued by no-poo.

I'm scared to spend money on something that doesn't work well...

Okay, awesome! thanks!

Yeah I usually wash with a handful of conditioner.. once in a while I'll use a shampoo, and if I do, I use one from the beauty supply store.. "curly sexy hair" usually..

But Shampoo does weird things to my hair.. so i try to use it as little as possible

but thanks for the info! it does all make sense now

I haven't tried the stylers, but I have tried the deep treatment and one of the daily conditioners. I forget which one, not the Aloeba. I am allergic to something in the conditioners. I wish I wasn't, because they work very well. They made my hair very soft, and the Island Fantasy scent is delicious!
