I tried curling my hair with a curling iron before. it only lasted for 2 hours and became straight again. how can i make the curls last longer and what products should i use? should i use the products before or after using the curling iron? thanks.

I have the same problem, but it's because my hair is so thick and heavy. Short of hair spray or spray gel, I haven't found a good solution yet either.

I have a hard time setting my curls too. The only things that help is not curling it right after a shower (dirty hair curls better)

Spray it with a thermal setting mist.. redken has one i believe with good hold.. and if your curling spirals when you go to let the iron out.. unwind your hair out of the iron instead of pulling it out.

I set my hair with rollers the night before. It is a pain sleeping with rollers, but it's worth the curls the next day.

i curl my hair on occation (like when im going swing dancing and doing a 50s look).

the key is: lots and lots and lots of hairspray.

My curls don't last either! Hairspray helps it hold longer but it makes it stiff and "unmovable". I was thinking of trying a curl enchancing cream/spray or something like that.

i agree with impulse ........... there are sprays you can get to make it last longer.........after you blow dry your hair, you lightly spray a piece at a time then curl it .... each piece one by one....they are readily available at the drug store

VO5 has one- Miracle Mist. It protects the hair from heat as well. I like this one cause it doesn't really have a scent. Plus it doesn't leave the hair sticky. Plus it's cheap!

Hairspray on each strand before you curl it.. My favorite is TIGI Hard Head... I haven't tried the thermal setting mist that a previous poster recommended, but it sounds like a really good tip!!

Also if you do your curls often, I'd suggest getting a set of hot rollers.. A good one is Caruso Steam Hair Setter, it works with steam and takes about 15 min to set.. I find that with hot rollers my curls last MUCH longer than just with the curling iron.. Also I find it easier to work with..

Folica.com Product Reviews: Caruso SalonPro 30 Molecular Steam Hairsetter

I got mine at Sally's Beauty Supplies.. not sure which other stores carry it.. but you can always order online..

mousse works well for holding curls too, otherwise there are some really good curl enhancing hair sprays which hold them really well!

are u supposed to hairspray ur hair then curl it??? wudnt the heat cause some chemical damage to ur hair if u have chems in it before u curl???

I have the same problem too.... my hair is too straight, its annoying! i always wanted curly hair but not brave enough to perm it hehe

I use alot of hair spray afterwards

when the curls come out, i brush it to make it into waves

I use hairspray afterwards but its specifically for curl enhancing, I don't know if it makes a big difference but as long as I don't brush it then it looks great

I would def recommend Redken Hotsets...this product makes curls last forever!!

-spray product on to hair and let it dry (it can get quite stiff) and then brush through it.... then curl hair. this should make it very flexible, but have amazing staying power :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Bleach all the life out of your hair! LOL!!!! What? It works! Processed hair holds a wonderful curl!

Hairspray each piece BEFORE you curl it, and then again when you're done. If you use an aerosol spray (Kenra -- number 18) it will still be movable and won't look too sprayed.

I agree with pretty much everyone above. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I use Biolage's aerosol hair spray for mine (my hair does have a slight, natural wave, though). If I curl my hair the day after a shower, then I spray each piece with hairspray, curl, let it cool and spray it again, then FINGER comb it into place -- no brushes!

If I shower right before I curl, then I put mousse in my hair and scrunch it, let it air dry or dry it with a diffuser. THEN repeat the process above. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Sometimes I'll use hot rollers, but I don't like them as much as my curling iron. It's weird, but true. I always end up burning my fingers on the edges of the rollers. And the pins always hurt my head. I find it's quicker and easier for me to just use a curling iron.

HTH!
