I bought some new hair extensions to color. My other ones were a little too short. Anyway, I bought a light blonde color, I used the auburn hair color that I use on my own hair, but it turned out way darker than my own hair did. My original haircolor is strawberry blonde, so this doesn't make sense. I would have thought it would have turned out lighter instead of darker. So should I buy a hairpiece that is darker or lighter than my original haircolor before I use hair color on it. I can't ever find one that matches my hair exactly, that is why I color it.

Weird, it should have worked. Maybe you left it on too long? hairpieces could be really pourus and soak up dye more easily

I don't wear them, but I've known people that colored theirs and got the same result --- usually it's because of them being so porous (like cardboardboxed said) they're not being conditioned by the scalp's natural oils, so they tend to get a tad dry.

So when I color them, should I leave the color on for maybe only half the time I do on my own hair???
