ok so here's the situation; i got my hair dyed at a salon not too long ago and i asked for blonde, but i think it's too blonde. its almost like gwen stefani, only its got a bit more golden hues. heres my question; can i use brunette hair color shampoos like John Freida to make my hair more brown, or will it screw up my color completely? keep in mind, i dont want to color my hair again. it's just too damaging to my hair. thanks!

I personally do not think that those color enhancing shampoos actually make brown any browner ect ect ect.

I sometimes use brilliant brunette by john frieda, maybe i'm wrong but i don't think there's any "color" in the shampoo and conditioner...it's just supposed to enhance the brown tones in your hair...

I think you might be thinking of the glazes in the john frieda line...they contain some color i believe...

yea but would it ruin the color? could it turn out orange? i have an important event pretty soon, and i dont want to have bad hair color for it...lol. also, do u know any other ways i could make my color darker?

I don't know if it would ruin the color but id suggest using the sheer blonde line instead of the brilliant brunette if anything...the only thing id suggest for making it darker is coloring it again...it shouldnt be hard seeing as u have blonde hair now...a brown color would take good to your hair prolly...(i know u said u didnt wanna color it again but thats the only thing i can suggest lol)

Other than that i found this: Yahoo! Answers - How to darken your hair colour naturally (No dyes)?

thanks! that really helps. i read the yahoo answers and i think i might try using coffee on my hair. do u think it would be okay to use?

No problem

Coffee and dark teas are thought to cover gray hairs in brunettes while chamomile and the yellow herbal teas are thought to brighten blonde hair, although it will not necessarily add color or lighten the hair in any way.

A friend of mine uses several herbal teas that have a red base to deepen the shine of her red hair.

Never use instant coffee or tea. Never use either when it is hotter then lukewarm.

Although there is no absolute recipe, you can start by making a pot of coffee with a drip or Mr. Coffee type of machine. A French press will work too and a Starbucks drip without additives is an option.

While you are waiting for the coffee to cool, shampoo your hair. Rinse well. If you use a rinse out conditioning treatment, complete that step. Rinse well. Carefully pour the coffee over your hair working from the roots to the ends. You may want to use a large pan or bowl so that you can rinse your hair several times by swishing your hair through the coffee or catching the liquid as it runs off your hair back into the pan and then continuing to pour it until you are finished.

When you are finished rinsing with the coffee you should do a final cool water rinse until the water runs clear. It is not advisable to leave the coffee in your hair because it can cause it to be sticky or gooey.

There are several things to keep in mind if you decide to rinse your hair with coffee:

1. Be prepared to let the coffee have enough time to cool or pop an ice cube in the coffee to quickly cool it down.

2. Have a large pitcher or bowl to allow for repeated rinses.

3. This is a very messy process. Don't attempt this anywhere but in a shower to avoid possible coffee stains to sinks.

4. Remember that you hair could possibly stain your towels. Use an old towel that you don't mind staining in case this happens.

5. Rinse the hair well enough to prevent the coffee from dripping and staining during the final cool rinse.

6. The results will be cumulative over a period of months.

7. If you want deeper results you will need to use a temporary coloring agent. Or you can experiment with making a coffee pack mixing 2 parts coffee to one part yogurt and applying to the hair topped off with a shower cap. Leave on your hair for several hours and then shampoo and finish with a coffee rinse.

8. If you prefer use black tea or herbal teas instead of coffee. Light haired people should avoid dark teas and coffees that might stain their hair.

The amount of coffee or tea that you use should be in proportion to the amount of hair that you have. If you have long or thick hair, allow extra liquid for rinsing. Start with two or three of the eight ounce cups and adjust the amount you use depending on the results. The same would be true for the amount of tea that you use.

One thing is certain. Using coffee or tea can be an interesting and fairly cheap alternative to adding color to dark hair

thanks so much! i just have one question though. since i have pretty light hair, would it only darken it a little bit and keep it blonde or would i be a brunette?

Never tried it so im just guessing...but id def say itd only darken it...not make you a brunette..for that youd have to color it again i think

yay! i really hope (and i think you are) right!! because that's exactly what i'm looking for!! i think im gunna go do it right now.... i'll come back with the results later. thank you so much for helping me!

I would suggest coloring it again. I had blond hair and last year dyed my hair completely brown and my hair actually loved it and it got soo healthy ever since then. I think bleaches are bad for the hair- they can fry it off but its not as bad to dye it darker shade.

i think you should get the glaze line by john frieda...

however instead of going to the brown one i would instead use the dark blonde one.

just cause this will still darken your hair but if you use the brown one it may just make your hair look gray

those shampoos dont have any color in it and neither does the glaze i have both it boosts the color but doesnt had any you should go back to the salon and have them glaze it with color i had mine done and it changed the color to a dark brown i had a reddish brown before so i dont know how dark it would go for you , you could always get it colored again if you want it darker they have chemical free all natural dyes so it wouldnt do very much damage to your hair

the shampoos are only for enhancing your hair so it doesn't make a difference but i suggest you tone down your hair with a different type of shampoo because they have ones speciffically for your problem so u can go down to a hair salon and pick something up just in case so u won't mess up ur color even more!!

There is a such thing as color depositting shampoos/conditioners. I honestly dont know what color it would turn your hair. I never tried one while i was blonde. You could try a rinse or a mousse, but once it starts fading it is very likely to end up with a green hue till it fades out.
