Has anyone ever uses coconut oil on their hair? I was told that it makes your hair grow and controls split ends so I bought some organic extra virgin coconut oil at walmart and I use it every other day for about a month and a half and it does make my hair soft and shiny, but my hair grows fast and I have no idea if it is the coconut oil or not. On the other hand I know that it good for skin rashes. A few years ago a lady from India told me that they used coconut oil on there skin and was never bothered with skin problems, and I got a rash on my neck from using bath and body works body mist and within a few days the rash went away. so I do know that it is good for the skin. Does anyone use coconut oil? if so does it work?

Ive used coconut oil on my skin just because i love the smell, I think apart from the immediate softness there is not much else, But i could be mistaken! I may have to stop using it to notice lol.

I haven't tried it on hair but I may now.

I've raved about coconut oil on several threads.

I doubt it it makes your hair grow faster, as that all occures under the scalp.

But it will make your hair stronger as it can penetrate your hair shaft and help restore the hair's strength and flexibility.

Check the search forum - there are several threads discussing coconut oil.

I've tried this and can honestly say I loved how my hair felt afterwords. This is saying a lot!

I use it, and now i NEEED it for my hair to stay conditioned during this texas heat. It is good for hair and skin.

I love it ! I'm a coconut fan so the smell on my hair and skin is divine, but what i love about it is it really moisturizes. I apply it on my hair, the ends mostly. I doubt it makes it grow, but it's fantastic for dry hair. You can also use a few drops as a leave in conditioner

Yes it does make my hair feel very soft when I put it on. But it works better for the skin. Thanks Dragonfly for the info.

I use it on my leave out hair (currently wearing a sew in) and I love it. It makes my hair really soft. I only use it after I wash my hair.

I use it on my hair... it keeps the end really soft and moisturised! I don't know if it would make your hair grow faster, I'm kind of sceptical about that!

Coconut oil is amazing - it's one of the few oils that has molecules small enough to actually penetrate the hairshaft/skin. It makes my hair SO soft, conditions my scalp, and I even use it sometimes (in small amounts!) as a leave in product or to moisturize my hair when I leave it curly!

You can use it to remove makeup, cleanse the face (oil cleansing methods), or as a body moisturizer.

It's also really good as a weight-loss supplement. It tastes awesome and really easy to work with.. you can cook with it too!

Coconut Oil is proven to be very good for the hair, because it adds proteins back into the strands that has been damaged through environment, weather, and heat. I'm not sure if that is why your hair is growing faster (although it's possible) but so glad your hair is softer and shinier! Unless you have very sensitive or oil skin I think the extra virgin coconut oil you have purchased should be ok for your skin as well. The B&BW spray probably gave you rashes because it contains chemicals and products other than pure coconut oil extract. But if you are doubtful and cautious check it with your dermatologist! Hope that helps.
