my best friend is going to be going through Cemo soon, and so we are going to be wig shopping soon. anyone know of a great brand? we havent started looking yet except online. i know we should look at actual stores, but i just wanted some opinions to pass on to her.

I got some wigs for myself on ebay. They are pretty cheap, and the ones that I got are pretty nice. I think Merle Norman has wigs too, if you have a store where you live.

i will check and see- i think there is a merle noman int he next town over! do you know the buyer at ebay you bought from?

(haha, read you comment on my new diaper bag btw)

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. I don't know anything about wigs but I just thought I'd post to say I'm thinking about you both. You're a sweet friend, making sure you look after her!

I've also heard that Nioxin might help keep her natural hair. Its a shampoo and conditioner that is meant to help with hair loss. I have alopecia and used it for a little bit and it did help, not as much as I would have liked tho but the lady who worked at the beauty shop was on chemo and she was really pleased with it.

Love to your friend,

Me

A couple of things to consider:

Not all chemotherapy causes hair loses.

If chemo does affects hair loss, it may not be the same amount of loss for everyone.

Therefore, I would advise your friend not to purchase a wig until she starts to lose hair.

The cost of a wig may be covered through various insurances.

She may want to investigate this. If she can get coverage, it may only be for a specific amount of money. Therefore, she doesn't want to purchase a $300 wig if only $200 will be covered.

When I worked at a cancer centre, I met many people that wore wigs.

Because they wore their wigs daily for several months, some wigs wore out fairly quickly. Your friend may prefer a wig made from real hair rather than synthetic hair.

You are a good friend - it is great that she has you during this difficult time.

Brewgrl,

I do some work at a company that produces an international show on Cancer Awareness. I know few things that your friend may appreciate having in her arsenal, just in case she deals with major hair loss.

I am going to PM you now.

my aunt underwent chemo and bought a couple of wigs but found them not to look natural so she mostly wears cute skarfs, so she can also try that if the wigs are too much hassle.
