I've had a really rough time over the last year (also one of the reasons I've not been on here) and have decided that being a white blonde isn't really me any more - I've changed so much and feel that the blonde girl in me left a while ago. Anyway, I've decided I want to go brunette!

I'll be doing it at home as can't really afford to go to the hair dressers but I wondered whether you fantastic ladies had any tips on colours etc that I should be aiming for??

I have a warm skin tone, fair skin with blue eyes so I think I'll need a warm brown tone??

Your blonde hair looks amazing! And I think for such a drastic color change, you might need to let a hair stylist do that.

oh it doesnt look like that anymore unfortunately! That was while I was on holiday and endless bleaching but it's too much to keep up with now, as I'm getting older my hair is getting naturally darker and when the roots need doing (every few weeks) I can't afford to go to the hair dresser so end up putting colours on that end up turning it yellow rather than white blonde...it really is too much!

I'm thinking more this colour - not a mega dark brown drastic colour as it would definitely be too much for me straightaway!

you could try using a wash in wash out or semi permanent to see if the colour works out, and then opt for the permanent one or keep using the semi.

when i tried to go brown at home i went a horrible khaki green colour, so it might be worth checking your hairdressers out, even if its just for a consultation which is free and might be able to help

hope that helps

Hmmm I am not feeling that shade of brown. Maybe dye your hair the same shade that you had as a child?

- I'm naturally very blonde but it's getting very mousy and dark as I'm getting older you see and the upkeep of white hair is very costly and time consuming.
I like the tip about the wash in wash out or semi permanent though...

I've thought about this for a good 3 or 4 months it's not a decision I've just made on a whim, I'm going to check out colours this weekend with my mum as she used to be a hair dresser, I reckon a nice warm chocolate colour would be lovely...

You could look after Katherine Heigl 's hair on "27 dresses" - it's brown, but not too much, and it looks good on her because she has a warm skin tone as well (and she has brown eyes)

I recently went from bleach blonde to brunette.... Is there anyway you can save to get it done? It is very hard to get a good color going that drastic..and at home it would be tough. My hairdresser had to put 4 or 5 different colors on me....it took longer than when I would get my blonde hilights....I love the brunette hair now but at first I missed the blonde a lot... it took awhile to like it!

hmm I don't really have any money to save as the small amount I do have just goes on food etc. I don't really buy make up even any more lol shock horror! I feel robbed!

But no my only option is to do it at home, my mum's pretty good so I trust what she recommends in terms of colour etc but I definitely need a warm colour!

I think 'Ceri-with-a-c' has the right idea. I'm naturally a brunette and LOVE IT! But, you may not and in that case you'd be better off safe than sorry. Definitely, try those brands/colors that aren't permanent until you like what you see.

I think a more chocolate brown would look better. Maybe even a color that has a slight red tint. I colored my hair a sandy brown color, which was similar to the picture you posted. I liked it at first, but then it just seemed like my hair wasn't really a color. It was just BLAH. It looked like it was in between colors. If that makes sense. Lol. Plus when you do it at home, its going to be one solid color. You won't have any low lights or high lights.

I dont think you can go wrong with a rich chocolate color, it will make your blue eyes pop too, having a darker hair color.

Well best of luck with it, try adding some low or high lights in it for dimension, and I hope you will post pictures for us to see what you decided on!

Ive been blonde pretty much all my life too so I bet its going to weird at first lol. Hopefully a good weird.

well I did it!! I do really like it but yes it's very strange and will take a while to get used to! None of my clothes look right now either lol so going to have to get some new clothes when I get my works bonus mid-year!

here is a picture though it's not a very clear one!

Yes I used a Nice and Easy Colourblend Technology hair dye called Medium Cool Ash Brown, I absolutely love it! It's a little darker at the ends than at the roots but I think it looks more like it's been a bit sunkissed and the different tones make it look more natural
