Hello,

I was wondering if any of you experienced heavy hair loss or shedding while starting birth control pills. About 2 months, I started Yasmin to help control my acne. It is working wonders for my skin, but my hair is starting to thin out on the scalp and sides. Has anyone else experienced this?

I read online in forums that this can happen when starting a birth control pill. I'm hoping that my hair will stabilize in the next month and hopefully not increase in shed.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I really want to continue the birth control method. I have always suffered from acne and finding that something that works is a godsend. Yasmin is the best thing that has happened to my skin, but my hair is a different story =(.

This hasn't happened to me, but I know of women who experienced thinning due to pregnancy. And since the pill convinces your body that it is pregnant and doesn't need to ovulate, it seems likely that it could cause this.

I think if the hair loss is undesired, you should stop taking Yasmin and see a dermatologist. There are other things out there (differin, Accutaine).

Thanks for all your comments! I actually did get my blood levels checked out and I am fine. I'm also going to the doctor next month.

Has anyone experienced initial hair loss starting the pill? And did it improve?

I was on the same pill but actually happend when I stopped taking the pill. It stopped after a couple of months...your body just needs to readjust to the hormones

Did you experience any hair loss going on the pill?

Gosh, I am experiencing the same thing right now, but have been using yasmin for awhile. During pregnancy my fine blonde hair was thicker and had nice volume. After taking yasmin my hair falls out especially after a shower. I shed soo much it's all over my clothes. I am REALLY considering changing pills after seeing a commercial on t.v. saying that yasmin is linked to blood clots and is considered not safe to take. Yikes! I would really like to stop taking the pill all together.

How long have you been taking Yasmin for?

I had been prescribed a contraceptive pill called Dianette to help with my acne which worked wonders for my skin.. I gained a little weight but that was it... Not any hair loss.

Best checking with your doctor and maybe he could suggest trying a different pill as there are lots that help with acne..

Very scary. I am not going to take yasmin anymore

I have been on it for four months straight now, but have been on it before pregnancy off and on. I can now put two and two together

When I started taking the pill I was worried about hair loss, so my doctor put me on Alesse because apparently it is less likely to happen with this pill. I haven't had any problems with this pill.

When you see your doctor next mention to him that you are having hair loss and he can find a different pill for you that will work.

concerning your problem about taking birth control pills, I think the side effects will be vary in every woman, because our hormonal reactions could be different with the others. Have you tried to consult to the doctor? Get yourself checked maybe?

I think it's the best way to make sure if it is because of the pill or maybe other factors?

Cheers..
