My hair is wavy but I would say it's leaning towards loose curl (think Shakira or Sara Jessica Parker season 2-3). I also have very thick hair (especially my hair follicles, quite thick!) So I was wondering after seeing all these awesome curlie cuts...

What do I ask for when getting a curly hair cut?? My main concern is getting some layers so that I can remove some bulk in the back and to create some movement & dimension. It's pretty long and sorta 1 lengthed at the moment and just looks tooo thick & poofy in the back. Alotta curlie gals suggest NOT getting it razored. HELP!! i NEED A GOOD HAIRCUT!!!

THANKS LADIES!

I have the same sort of hair type as you Dubsbelle.

I ended up get long layers put in my hair (not in the back since my hair would frizz and be unmanagable if I did that), my hair is still down to my bra strap when it's curly so it's still long and has movement.

Please don't get your hair razored...I allowed a hairdresser in San Diego to cut my hair and my hairdresser spent months fixing the cut...from what I understand, razoring is for those is straight or fine hair.

I have same hair type as you and just got my hair cut really short. When my hair was razored it was a poofy frizzy mess . But my curls are seriously lacking in definition. Maybe you should book a consultation with your hair stylist before you commit to any cut? That way you have time to think about what you really want and what is the most practical for your hair type.

Definitely don't razor it! I'd get either longer layers, or more subtle layers towards the bottom... It's helped my hair a lot...

Thanks for the rec's gals!

I've been bouncing from 1 stylist to another. None of them know how to STYLE NOR CUT my hair when it's curly. They just straighten my hair and then cut. So I haven't really had a nice cut in a while

thats exactly what all my hair dressers do, they wash, cut then straighten, never anything else... good luck! i would get consultation, if i get layers in my hair , it only looks good straight, if i try to wear it curly while its layerd, its a CARROT TOP mess! LMAO

I have the same hair - starts out wavy and becomes ringlet-curly. It is quite thick with no movement and has a triangular look - kind of flat on top and wide on the bottom.

I wore it one length with bangs. I straightened with blow dryer and flat iron.

I recently had my hair length cut to shoulder length and layers starting at ear level. The stylist said that layers should start at the middle of the hair length for the best look.

To style now, I scrunch in mouse everywhere and shape my bangs with a comb. And I let my hair air dry. That's it. No more blow dry, flat iron. And no frizz!

Surprisingly, I look twice as good now with about a 10th of the effort with the last look.

Ahhh, memories of my razor cut nightmare with my curly hair. I did score an elaborate collection of clips, scrunchies etc, until the horror grew out a bit.

Thank god for anti-frizz serum!

Great advice ladies

I've heard that getting the layers underneath cut slightly shorter really helps reduce the bulk of curly hair. I saw it on what not to wear I think.
