i say my skin type
Well, my generalized email consists of a greeting, a compliment to their products, saying I want to try them, saying I'll share my results (I don't say on a blog anymore because while I do have one it's very small and I noticed they're quick to jump on questions when they see blog.) if you have one, absolutely include that though. My skin type, tone, and my allergy to florals.then I say thanks and include my address

My emails consisted of, literally, "I have a friend who suggested you, and I'm interested in trying your stuff, can I have a sample?"

People say not to do that, but I had a good number of companies respond to that.

Only two companies did I really praise them, and those were two that I've tried before.  (One was Dr. Pepper who sent me a free koozie, haha.)

Oh and I always address the responder by name not company. I read somewhere that a lot of companies leave it up to the tech who gets samples and who doesn't. That little bit of personal touch, has gotten me a lot of "well we don't usually but...." and some nice scores!

Well only like 3-4 of them that were on the list said no to me, and I dunno what made the woman at Clarins say yes because I didn't change the email to them at all.

As expected, I got a decent amount more no's than yes's. Which makes me sad lol. I think clarins said no. But I also stopped emailing just foil companies because I have SO MARY FOILS I'm going nuts lol. It's nice and I'm grateful, it's just. Most of them are night Cream or eye cream or something of the like, which is great but. How many cream samples does a gal really need??

for  se[hora bday gift do u just go in and say its ur birthday
Sephorahas pretty much gotten wise to people cashing in on birthday gifts, especially those going back for seconds. They keep a person's redemption date on record now, and if you don't have an insider membership they make you take out one. Some around me want to see ID too.

(Edited because spellchecker mistook Sephora for Deborah.)

Do you have to have a membership with sephora or is it just random

As far as I know you need a membership for the birthday gift. I tried a few weeks ago to get it, having forgotten I redeemed in November. They looked me up and said it was redeemed on such-and-such date. One store had so many problems with multiple redemptions that they now ask for ID. A membership is free, though. You do not need one to get samples. When I go in I usually tell them I want to try a new base or perfume or whatever, to rule out allergies. (This isn't exactly a lie. My husband is so sensitive that my products can flare him up badly.) They have been very good about sending me away with several good-sized samples.

just got my samples from acure and they were pretty generous! 1 travel size of each shampoo, conditioner and body wash, 6 of those cardboard pouches and 3 mini containers of other stuff.

So, update yesterday I went to the mall and got some samples! I got my birthday gift from Sephora, a foil packet from the Merlot Collection, eye cream from Origins, a foundation sample from estee lauder, and seaweed day cream from The Body Shop. All of these I just walked up and asked except for sephora I had to tell them my membership email. Today I got a five piece eye shadow pallete from ulta for my birthday. They sent me a coupon to print out. So good haul I guess!
