so ive tried to get samples before, but I have received nothing. I have contacted many companies but nothing was sent. I don't know what im doing wrong, I try and compliment companies and be polite asking for samples but it doesn't seem to be working. help?  :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

This is my third month receiving samples, but this month I got an idea... And that idea led to many more ideas and then I ended up getting $895.96 worth of running gear for free along with the usual beauty product samples and a couple of colleges I am interested in sent me shirts and/or pens all for FREE!!!

So to start out I tell you about getting my free running stuff. So, I like to run, a lot. I currently run for a high school cross country team so I thought, why not ask for donations? So I did. I got a lot of no's...Until I found Darn Tough Socks. I emailed this company in search of a running sock donation and they sent me 30 pairs. Yes THIRTY. Okay yes I was very proud of this, in fact I managed to get $480 worth of socks for free.

So this led me to my next idea. After asking for so many donations and receiving so many no's got tiring and I was getting bummed out. And then I got a thought...I was asking for donations for my whole varsity team and that was a lot to ask. I figured companies really don't get anything in return if all they do is give away free stuff to anyone that wants it. So I started writing a template, I talked about my passion for running, how I was a high school athlete in search of new running shoes, water bottles, what ever it was to help me become a better athlete. And then I made so to add that I would be happy to send in a picture of me wearing the clothes in a race (if it was clothes) or just review it (if it wasn't clothes, but I do review the clothes also). I ended up getting $415.96 worth of running gear for myself, headbands, water bottles, shoes, you name it.

Here's what you've all been waiting for, I know you've been asking yourself the whole time so here's the companies!!!

-Darn Tough Socks ($480 worth of running socks)

-Thirty 48 (socks $15.99, Compression sleeves $34.99)

-Bondiband (headband $9)

-Skora (Running shoes $94.95)

-Zensah (compression sleeves $39.99)

-Sportline (running vest $10, Sport phone holder armband ($10, HydraCoach water bottle $29.99)

-Scott (Palani running shoes $130, Race Rocker shoes $125)

I've learned something, all you have to do is ask.

Sounds like you're doing everything right, you just have to be realistic too. Most bigshot brands don't send things out, so start with smaller, unfamiliar brands. Tell them you're interested in their products, and are looking to change skincare routines, but hate buying in the dark and would love to try some. Give them a little information about your skin type, and it usually does the trick!

wow! i usually only hear about beauty bloggers or people who have gathered a following receiving free clothing, etc.

thank you for the advice, i did notice that a lot of larger companies don't even bother replying to emails. what are some smaller, more unfamiliar brands can i try to contact?

I've received numerous samples by reviewing a product first. In my request, I include a link to the review, while also requesting the product that I'd like to sample next. I've had the most success with this approach, and many times they send a FULL sized product -- not just a 1 week supply.

Good luck.

You should read this thread, at least for a few pages back and many people have posted very good long lists of the companies that they were successful with. Theres a handful of them that pretty much send to almost everyone.

Also, I see you are from Canada.. I'm not 100% sure but that also might be the reason you are not getting the response you want, not every company is willing to ship outside of the US.

Good Luck!!

Where do you usually post your reviews? And would you need to have a substantial audience that reads your reviews in order for them to send you full-size samples?

I have read through and out of some listed that I have contacted, only about 3 of them actually emailed back saying the don't ship outside of the US. I am totally ok with that because I know there are more companies out there !! would it be a good idea to state where im from and contact these companies again and see what kind of luck i get this time around ?

I need to find a new eye cream- does anyone know what companies give big, deluxe sized samples of eye cream? I would like enough to try it for a week, so a foil (even an eye cream foil) only usually lasts me a few days.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hm.. I always put my name and address at the bottom of the email so it's easier for the CS rep, and about half of the samples I got they didn't reply but I just got something in the mail. So don't feel discouraged. I always try to look around the website first a bit and check out the stuff and see what I'm interested in and then write them a personalized e-mail. That seems to always work the best. Also maybe some companies have special emails/websites for Canada? I'm not sure if thats how it works but they have separate ones for Europe I think.

Hey everyone. Just a big time lurker here.

Started composing a google doc with all the companies contacted/ive been wanting to contact.

Also, just a headsup, if anyone is missing out on the Elizabeth Mott sample in this month's ipsy, or wants more, they currently have a sample waitlist you can sign up for. 1 item per household, but still!

So I just organized my samples by category (moisturizer, anti-aging, toner, etc.), so I don't have a huge overview over what each company sent me, but there are some that stick out in my mind.

Montagne Jeunesse sent me 4 of their peel-off masques. I plan to try them out today :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Embryolisse sent me 25 foils of varying sizes (2 mL to 6 mL) in a really pretty blue drawstring sachet

I got a second catalogue from DHC with three samples. Sadly, I can't use them as the first time I used their

products I had an awful reaction to it.

Nubian Heritage sent me a while back a 238 mL (about the size of your standard plastic water bottle) Olive and Green Tea Lotion, which I adore to death. It's so thick and creamy, like a body butter on steroids.

Nivea sent me 2 - 30 mL tins of their creams, plus a foil of their Cocoa Butter, along with about 10 coupons for $1-$3 dollars off of their products.

I got an eye crayon in a teal blue color from Mary Kay. I don't remember how I got it, I think it must have been from a text offer, but boy, was I surprised to see a full sized eye crayon!

Fragonard sent me a catalogue (2nd one so far). Inside were 3 perfumes (they send them as towelettes in foils) and a anti-aging cream.

Dove had a few offers for their DeepMoisture body wash, I scored 2 and each was good for about 5 washes, so 10 in total.

And the last one that really impressed me was Absolutely Natural. They sent me 3 or 4 of their "skin conditioner" lotions, all in 60 mL.

Nubian Heritage, Dove, Nivea, and Absolutely Natural are absolutely ones I'll purchase from again. Fragonard's scent are way too strong for me, honestly. Embryolisse is okay, but I've found other brands I prefer. We'll see about the peel off face masks today :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
