I was looking at their website, and it said it was a protein s/c. I tried a Redken protein treatment last year to try to make my hair softer and healthier, but it ended up making it feel like straw!! My stylist told me that if you use too much protein on your hair, it will make it dry instead of soft. So, what's the deal? I don't use protein any other time except when I tried Nexxus protein shampoo and conditioner, and the protein treatment, and it all made my hair terribly dry. Does this mean I shouldn't use HSH??? Any advice would be helpful! (BTW, I tried doing a search on this before I posted, but I couldn't find anything about it.)

Honey, I betcha you'll be okay with this! I'm no expert, but my hair is truly in the best condition I think it's ever been in! Not to mention, maybe the difference is that you used a treatment as opposed to a shampoo/conditioner? I dunno, and like I said, I'm no expert. Maybe it's the specific protein(s) in Redken and Nexxus that caused your hair to dry out rather than protein(s) in general? Maybe Janelle will have better info for you.

Yeah, maybe you're right and it was just the brand that I used and not so much the protein part of it. I hope so b/c I REALLY wanted to try out this new (well, new to me lol) shampoo and conditioner that everyone is raving about!!

Hopefully someone can tell me if it's the protein or the product that I used. Thanks for the tip, Aquilah!

Have you compared the ingredients of HSH and Redken and Nexxus?? I would imagine you could get the ingredients offline or go to Ulta and check the bottles.

Janelle, what do you think? You seem to be the expert on HSH!

My hairstylist told me the exact same thing. Too much protein causes the opposite effect in hair, it should only be used once a week, twice after chemical service, or it will dry out the hair. I believe her, it's happened to me. What I do is use my protein shampoo, conditioner and treatment once or twice a week and a regular moisturizing shampoo and conditioner every other time I wash my hair. Once I started doing this, it greatly helped. My hair is in much better condition now. HTH!

Yeah ... protein used in moderation is good to strenthen hair. But, overuse of it can leave hair dry. I don't think you'll have a problem with HTH. It may contain small amounts of protein, but the other ingredients will prevent any sort of dry-out.

Janelle~THANK YOU!! Now I won't worry so much about using it. I went ahead and bought the shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner. I used it last night, and my hair feels pretty much the same. It didn't dry it out, though so that's a good thing!!! I really like the leave-in conditioner b/c it made my hair feel a lot softer. I will keep using it and see if I can see a difference!!

Kristie~If my hair does start to dry out I will do what you suggested and only use it once a week. Thanks for the suggestion!!
