i'm trying to grow out my hair & i'm impatient! it's shoulder length now & i'd like it to be about bra length. i've read soo much good info on here about making it grow faster, but i still have a few q's for the hair guru's!

1) what kind of vitamins are the best for making hair grow faster? i read omega 3-6-9, biotin, prenatal vitamins, vitamin b, & silica gel. they're all kinda jumbling in my head...what's better to start out with, and what I.U. (%) should they be to get maximum results? it seems like a lot to take all together. also, i read that prenatal vitamins cause iron levels to be too high & can damage organs?

2) are there any shampoos & conditioners that aide in hair growth? i've heard alot about mane'n'tail, but it's getting conflicting reviews. what's the deal, does it actually work? and, is it even still available? if not, are there any others?

3) what is the best kind of protein treatments? obviously eating fish & such, but i'm talking literally. are there any at-home recipes that provide protein?

thanks for any advice! i'm clueless about this one!

hey, thanks for the threads, but i've read all these..i was just kinda confused about which one of the vitamins to take, if that makes sense. there were soo many recs, it kinda got me lost.

basicly the vitamins that will work for you is whatever is lacking in your diet.

no specific vitamin will make your hair grow longer, just as long as you have a balanced diet and are getting all the minerals and vitamins you need than your hair will grow as fast as it can.

sadly there is no miracle product

There are basic things that are always good to take, like a multi-vitamn, calcium (and calcium citrate + D seems to be the best one), and many people say getting tons of vitamin C is always a good thing, but other than that, like you said, you really have to have an obvious deficiency of something for anything else to help.
Brittle nails (and hair) can be a sign that you should change something. Your doctor should be able to tell you if you have a potassium deficiency, which can cause that. I've seen a lot of stuff saying biotin is good for your hair, but that's not proven. Very few people have a biotin deficiency. If you do have a biotin deficiency it's usually because you don't have enough of a certain enzyme, and that can also cause you to have dermatitis and be allergic to NutraSweet. But if you don't have those symptoms biotin is probably a waste.

Also, brittle hair/nails can be a sign of hormone issues. Some birth control pills can make your nails more brittle. Switching to progesterone-only mini-pills can help.
