This is kinda piggy-backing off of barbi's thread about which fragrance do you get complimented on. It got me thinking. What do you do if you love a small range of 4 or 5 certain fragrances, and you've been wearing them on and off for years, and you feel sexy and wonderful when you smell them...but you NEVER get compliments on them? I figure it's either people aren't noticing, or even worse, they don't like it. Who knows. Is this something I should worry about? I try new scents all the time but nothing ever knocks me out, like "I love this, I have to have it!" I stick with what I love and what makes me feel good. But maybe they aren't doing anything for me. I use a Vanilla Sugar body lotion that I've received compliments on, and although I like it, it's not something I'd look for in a perfume. I like warm, spicy, exotic, oriental scents.

I'm a single gal! I need to be smelling good, ya know! HELP! :confused:

 
I spent a small fortune on fragrances and the only one that got compliments were Dior Addict and Clinique Aromatic Elixer. I know many people can't stand the Aromatics but after 23 years of wearing it I still get stopped. I have tried fragrances that were $200 only to give them away.

 
I have a huge wardrobe of perfumes and fragrances at home and yet I often rotate between the same few. They are all very similar to each other in their base - meaning, they are mostly, sweet smelling, food based scents. I'm not a floral-scent, type person. Sometimes I get compliments and sometimes I don't. I think that people these days might be shy to say something - and then again - everyone's preference is different. The main thing is not to marinate yourself in it so people don't gasp when you enter an elevator. LOL - I wear what I like though and not what others care for.

Thanks guys, I needed someone else's perspective. You know how you doubt yourself some days...:icon_roll I just keep reading in mags that if you aren't receiving compliments on your hair, style, fragrance, etc. that means it's time to change it. But I think it's important to stick with what makes you feel your best. There's got to be a happy medium in there somewhere!

 
I have been wearing eternity since high school and i still get compliments on it. It's MY fave scent i don't care what any one else thinks. My friends have smelled it at the mall and comment on how that's MY perfume that's what I smell like (they spent a half hour in the fragrence department of ulta trying to figure out which perfume it was cus they smelled it on someone else)

I have few fragrences i always keep a bottle or 2 or 3 of eternity since it is my fave, but i also have eternity moment (i have been trying to get a swap for eternity purple orchid but it hasn't happend yet :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />) Chanel allure, CK escape, CK one *that i never wear* avon's natori, CD's Poison, philosophy's pure grace, Hanae mori, and Miami glow, i also have vanilla, oceanus, and lilac perfume oil from the body shop i love their perfume oils, and i have night blooming jasmine purely silk body splash, cucumber melon purely silk body splash and coconut lime verbena body spray from bbw. i wear the cucumber melon and night blooming jasmine sprays the most out of those. my fave is the jasmine one though it smells sooo pretty. (and i'm sure it'll be d/c like everything else i like)

but like everyone else says i try to stay true to what i like and not give a hoot if someone else likes it or not.

 
well jeez i hardly get compliments on my hair or makeup but i like what i'm doin with it lol maybe that 's why i don't read magazines, they tend to make u feel bad about yourself.

 
Wow Anya! I wear Eternity for years too and Avon Natori! This is of course in addition to my Aromatics. I did try alot of fragrances from the fragrance board over on mua. I was really poor and no one liked any of it. I am very fond of my Dior Addict too and will always stock up on this.

 
so it's you and me that only wear eternity lol since it's such an uncool scent to wear nowadays lol

lately i am too poor to buy perfumes too but i have a habit of just using one thing cus that's the one i REALLY like.

and yea i LOVE natori i use a teeny bit once in awhile cus i love it so much and i don't want to finish up my bottle.

 
It is not even a question about the money cause I was spending a fortune. These fragrances are what people stop me and ask me about. I wore Natori today. These are what work for me. I'm glad cause none of them are $$.

 
i'm not a perfume snob since i can't afford a whole huge wardrobe of fragrance. i spend more on make up since the perfumes i have i love.

but yea i get asked about eternity all the time and everyone always says how good i smell so that's all i care about lol

 
I agree, I would never tell a stranger that they smell good, that just seems weird to me! :icon_redf

 
If someone smells good I let them know cause i want to know what it is. I get stopped more for the Aromatics than the Eternity. Someone was wearing Perry Ellis 360 the other day and smelled so clean.

 
ive only had one compliment on my fave fragrance so far, by an MA but maybe thats cause i dont put alot and you cant really smell it unless you stand close to me. my boyfriend loves all of my perfumes, so his opinion doesnt really count lol :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> i love this perfume though, so regardless of compliments or not ill wear it anyway cause it makes me feel good about myself, which im sure reflects outward.

 
My husband loves Beautiful by Estee lauder and I can't stand it. I try wearing it and wind up having to shower.

 
lol phillygirl. my bf loves cool water for women by davidoff but i dont like it, it feels to kiddie for me. luckily he likes all the fragrances i like for him :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

 
Be true to your taste! I rarely get direct compliments, but often I do hear comments that "I always smell nice". Odd! My favorites are floral/musk combinations. I wore samples of Serge Lutens Un Lys blended with Luten's Clair de Musc for a few days and fell head over heels in love. But I know those scents are not a favorite with the guys. I think my DH would love it if I used vanilla-based scents but they're too sweet for my taste. He'll just have to tolerate my uniqueness...bwahahaa!

Phillygirl, I can only imagine what you were recommended by the MUA fragrance board! There are quite a few members who love 'challenging' scents.

 
I could not even pronounce the fragrance recs i got. I do have one I like that was a gift from another muaer, it is by creed and it is a beautiful rose scent.
