Okay, I'm obsessed w/the idea of dyeing my hair red at this point, lmao, but I need a little help.

Okay...see my avatar pic? That's me, the pic is a couple years old and my hair was a liiiiiittle bit lighter there than it is now but only a tad, cause I'd been out in the sun a lot. Anyway, I want to get from about that shade, to this:

*lol*

Opinions? Good idea? Bad? I've dyed my hair red before and liked it, regardless of my dark eyebrows.

Anyone know what I would use to GET that shade, or can I even get that from a box?

Also, I dyed my hair in mid-june with a semi-permanent red dye...(and a couple months before that I had done it as well). Anyway, it was Loreal. It's a little bit apparent but only in the sun. If it's anything like the semi dye I had before that, it could take ages to wash out entirely. Am I safe dyeing with a permanet dye over that or is that just asking for trouble and uneven color when my roots start growing out? I was thinking of waiting 3 months (though honestly it might not even all be washed out entirely by then, like before) but I'm antsy lol. However I don't want it to come out wrong.

Ah, help me. *lol* Thanks for any tips.

(Oh...if you actually want to give me your opinion, lmao, and need a better, more recent pic of me just let me know, I can probably find one...I know the avatar one is kinda small.)

I like semi-perm. colors if you are going more than a few shades away from your natural color. It's a little easier than going perm. if your roots are drastically different, and you arent super diligent on the upkeep and touch ups. The color in the pic is more of an orange-red ... Pro colors will usually tell you the base color. Box dyes you can usually find in that color --- use the shade chart to see how it'll compare to what you have now. I think that color would look great on you!

Unless you want to have brown tones, don't go w/ anything auburn. Stick with orange-red or copper.

Yeah, the semi-permanent dyes I've used were VERY disappointing. They weren't the shade I'm saying I wanted, of course, being only semi-permanent...they weren't supposed to be. But both times I tried them, no one but my boyfriend could tell that I'd dyed my hair.

Here's a picture of the actual dye I think I'm going to use:

Bought 2 boxes on sale. lol. (Very long hair.)

Sort of auburn is okay, I just want it so that you can actually SEE the red, I guess that's why I picked such a vibrant pic of Alyson Hannigan.

Oh...and when I went to the nice n easy site, it said that the shade pictured above actually was within 2 shades of my hair. *shrugs* *lol.* If they say so, I guess. I don't know too much about this.

Oh, and I was going to post an old pic of me with red hair, but the scanner is wonky right now.

Will be fixed soon hopefully.

I LOVE that color! I'm also obsessed with wanting/needing to have red hair myself though! Can't wait to see pics when you've colored it!

i like you also love red.. it's such a hard color to achieve. If you finally do color your head red, please post some pics so I can show my hairdresser. I've been dying to get a good red hair job.

I have that same box of color under my sink.

I love that color! You'll look great with it.. I want to see pictures as well! I've thought about it for years, but on top of being way to chicken to do it, it wouldn't look good on me at all.. My DIL has the most beautiful auburn hair, and it's natural!

Aww thank you cutelicious.

And everyone else for your opinions.

Well, I did a strand test with that dye. (Now have a tiny, funky place on the back of my head where the hair is cut close to scalp...*lmao* I hate that!) And the results came out, well, like the results were a few years ago when I dyed my hair. I liked it okay, but it's just not the coppery red I want now.

So, I've decided to do henna.

For anyone interested in seeing what I mean, check out this link:

Click on the swatches...you can't always tell what the final results looked like from the thumbnails.

And, when I dye it, I will certainly get the scanner up and running and post pics. Can't wait to do this...just hope it comes out how I want! *lol*

Just be sure that you do a test with that also.... Once you start with henna, you shouldn't mix on any other form of dye... so its a commitment, and you might want to be sure you like it first..

Oh I will be very careful. lol.

But I'm sure if it comes out as I hope *crosses fingers*, I will absolutely love it and committing to it won't be a problem.

Lush has henna dye in it's stores too. I read in one of their newsletters that if you mix the red and a tad of brown together, you get a very nice vibrant shade of red

I'm sure you'll look fabulous with your new colour of hair

Henna can be tricky, goodluck with it and i really hope u achieve the color ur looking for

If you want to get that shade of red you will need to use a Copper Blonde color. An auburn will probably only darken your hair and the red won't be that vibrant. I think Nice and Easy makes a Copper Blonde color that you might want to try. Henna is such a huge commitment and if you don't like it you have to wait until it grows out before you can do anything to change it.

Love the color in the original pic. Can't way to see the way henna turns out on you. Keeps us updated.
