Okay, I HATE my skin. It's so dry it litterally flakes off! I've been drinking 8 or more glasses of water a day since the 7th, hoping to see a difference but no luck there - yet. Well, that's not true, I've noticed that the dryness seems to be more confined to just my T zone. But it's still annoying >:|

I honestly don't have the $$ for expensive facial treatments but I'm at my wits end with this. The only thing I put on my face right now is water, and a few times a week I use extra virgin oilve oil. Is this not good? Is there anything else I can do?

Sigh. Everyone tells me I'm so lucky that I don't get pimples . . . I keep telling them: "my pimples are just too scared to come out because they're afraid that if they do they'll fall of my face too! "

Halp meh! - my skin is commiting dermatocide :icon_cry:

(ps . . . incase that last part wasn't as funny as it sounds in my head right now, that was meant as a joke - like my skin is commiting 'suicide' . . . and uh, anyway, sorry if that wasn't funny :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />)

Do you have a humidifier? I live in high elevation with dry air, and humidifiers really help.

ETA, hopefully Kim can help you more! She is the skincare guru! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Hi there! The others here have already give good advice, so try to do those things. But you`ve also said that the only thing you put on your face right now is water and I think that it`s the water maybe that is drying your face, cuz putting water on skin can have drying effects instead moisturizing effects. Where I live we have hard water and when I use to long or to much water on my skin, it get dry also. So just wanted to mention that :icon_wink

id definately use a moisturiser, id recommend nivea intensive moisturising cream. if i dont use this i get really dry skin and it gets rids of flakes straight away!

I have dry skin and horrible dry skin in winter and actually have acne along with the dry skin.:icon_cry: I have found a skin product that has become my HG. It's Weleda Skin Food. I use it at night. It feels kinda heavy going on but quickly absorbs.

I agree on the exfoliating. I've gone through some dry periods and this always helps me. I also like to use emu oil on my dry areas. Keep drinking plenty of good quality water because that will help hydrate your skin from the inside.

If you are not already producing adequate amounts of sebum to protect and hydrate your skin (especially in the dry winter months), then you'll need to find a daily moisturizer that will do the job. Good, cheap moisturizers can be found in health food stores. Check out brands like Derma E, Weleda, Alba Botanica and Better Botanicals. Also consider using jojoba oil as a daily nighttime treatment.

And as the others suggest, do regular exfoliation. That flaky, dry skin will make the skin feel drier than it really is because it doesn't move and stretch as easily as the healthy skin underneath. It also inhibits the absorption of moisturizers, which your skin seems to be in need of. :icon_smil

Hi! For my dry skin, I can get away with 2x weekly but I definitely have to use a moisturizer afterwards. Scrubs tend to cleanse 'very well' anyhow and my skin cries out for hydration after I rinse and blot dry.

Everyone's given such great advice...and that article is really good, Maph!

I just wanted to add...when you put the Olive Oil on your face...just put it on the dry areas...if the rest of your face is not dry, then it may OVER oil the skin and cause you to break out. Also, put a nice thick/folded towel on your pillow...it sucks when you forget to do that and you wake up in the morning with a big oil stain on your favorite, expensive pillow case. :embarassed:

I have dry skin too!! Bath and body makes great body butter and its pretty inexpensive too. When I used it made my skin really smooth and not dry at all.

exfoliating is the key to get rid of dry flaky skin. Then put on a heavier cream on the dry spots. This usually works for me. You just have to give it time.

Everyone is so right!--exfoliation is the key to ending the cycle of dry skin--or at least making sure it stops intruding on your life!Olive oil is also GREAT--the skincare brand DHC has a huge selection of products with olive oil as a main or fortifying ingredient. One that has been a lifesaver to my dry skin is their Deep Cleansing Oil--mainly olive oil & Vitamin E, it softens and hydrates skin wonderfully. I also use their daily Mositurizer(Rich Moisture)under my foundation, and at night too: again olive oil is the main ingredient, and its targeted specifically for DRY skin. (They have a night moisturizer too I haven't tried"Extra Nighttime Moisture.") Then I like their "Renewing AHA Cream" with lactic acid and AHA--I use it only once a week but it gets rid of flakiness and dry spots like magic! Their exfoliator I'd really reccomend, since it's so important for people with dry skin to exfoliate!--"Apricot seed Exfoliator"--and it's extra softening as well as able to really do the job you need.

I'd highly reccomend these products, since I know they work, but as someone else said, ANYTHING with olive oil is great--wish I knew of some other names right now, but I'm sure they're out there. Aveeno has really good dry skin products, and I like Ponds Dry Skin Care, and some Nivea...Anyway, there are a lot of terrific products out there--and if you are intersted in/ curious about any of the products I listed, you can go to www. DHCcare.com.

Exfoliate exoliate exfoliate!!! years ago I used to get such flaky skin, I still do on my forehead during winter. Moisturising alone wont work because you are simply moisturising dead skin, so nothing will happen! slough off all those flakes then stick on a good moisturiser to keep the new, fresh skin healthy and happy! you might also want to get a night cream to occasionally use to keep you soft and smooth :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I hate it when my skin gets flaky too - nothing ruins makeup so badly IMO. The foundation clings to them and they look even worse :icon_roll

Exfoliation is the key - the girls are right!

I was posting on & on about DHC skincare products I use, but I neglected to mention the ONLY one you probably even need at all: DHC Olive Virgin Oil. It is incredibly hrydrating, causes no breakouts, and is really easy to use.Plus, if you don't want to buy that, olive oil(virgin)from a health food store will do well too: I put it over my skin, before my nighttime/day moisturizer(which supposedly then penetrates the skin more deeply.)

I have had this same problem of very dry skin. I went out and bought Oil of Olay Active Hydrating Cream ($7.00). I have oily skin and was a little worried by the word 'cream' but it is wonderful. It has done absolute wonders for my dry skin and it has not caused me to break out. I have no more of those little dry skin flakes all over my face and my skin is very smooth now.

my skin was something like that when i moved to a less humid environment. then i tried the oil of olay serum. renoviste, or something like that. i forget what its called, but my skin is now soft. it costs like 17 bucks at the drugstore

I see you live in Canada, well that is probably part of the problem, however I have the cure which isn't as cheap in price as the other suggestions to you but will work. Get all these products from Clinique & kiss that dry skin goodbye. Start with their "Comforting Creme Cleanser" (use cool water, not hot or warm), then "Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Face Spray", allow it to dry then apply "Moisture on Line". Within a week you will restore the natural moisture in your skin, & these products provide a excellent barrier between your face & the cold Canadian air. Using these 3 products 2x a day will definately do the job this I assure you without looking like you've got a ton of grease on your face & won't clog your pores either. Good luck & let us know how you made out.
