Hey guys!

My sister has always had stretch marks from when she was growing as a teen... They are the dark ones and she pretty much hates to get in a bathing suit bc of them! :scared:

Is there anything that might make them lighter or less noticeable?

My sister used Palmer's Stretch Mark Lotion throughout her pregnancy and it seemed to help her. It contains cocoa butter. Maybe that would help. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Any I've ever developed went away on their own eventually. I've seen a few of the threads Kim is probably referring to, and there's lots of useful info.

Stretch marks are an inherited skin problem, there is nothing that you can buy or put on them to stop them except to never ever gain or lose weight. If your skin is pedisposed to them, you will get them and moisture has nothing to do with it. Save your money.

However, there have been tests done with Retin A that seems to make them less noticable. You could also get plastic surgery, though I'm not sure what it is that they do. Probably the best thing you can do to make them not look so bad is tone and firm up your skin and use self-tanner - they show up worse on pale skin. And talk to a dermatologist about the Retin-A option, that may be worth looking in to. Though it may be expensive having to cover large areas and you have to keep doing it forever, same as using RetinA for wrinkles.

There is no cure for stretchmarks, the only thing one can do is to make them appear less. Only time will heal the damage stretching has casued to the skin. Just getting the blood circulation going under the skin is a great start. Coco butter is an ancient remedy, and it works, not just because it's coco butter, but cause of the action of rubbing it into the skin (cause of it's thickness) thusing making the blood cicrulation to increase, so one can do that with any cream. I asked a question sometime ago, about covering up stretchmarks with bronzers. But a not a lot of people answers, so now I'm going to hunt around the skin care counters...

My sister used Retin-A on her stretch marks quite successfully. Her stretch marks were rather new. Don't know if it works on old ones.

I recently saw a show that featured lazers.

There is a new lazer on the market that can reduce/eliminate the scars from stretch marks.

Sorry, I don't know the name but I would talk to a Dermatologist for details.

Retin A has been shown to improve the appearance of stretch marks to some degree.

Otherwise, I agree with Jen19 and Pieced - nothing else works so save your money on over the counter creams.

I have a co-worker who got chemical peels on her very old stretch marks....it worked very well, you could see a difference after the first visit.

Vitamin E oil, applied multiple times a day helped a lot when my brother got them from bodybuilding. Just try to be consistent with whatever you're doing, use it as often as you can.

I would think there has to be some kind of laser treatment to resurface the skin. That is interesting to hear about a chemical peel, makes sense that could help as well. If it help with scarring on your face.

i've had strechmarks since my early teens. It increased over the years though. I'm underweight...i never gained or lost a significant amount of weight so i have no idea of how i got them.

But i've learnt to accept them...but ofcourse when i have to go to the beach i am more aware of it, but i don't let it stop me from having fun.
