So, I've been dying my hair on and off now for about 8 years... I also use to swim every year, and now my hair is just a complete mess. I really want to get highlights but I know it will just damage it too much. I also straighten my hair all the time, which I am not about to give up...

I have split ends but also near the end of the hair there are places where it will just break off. I've tried soo many different shampoo and conditioners to help strengthen the hair, but I'm sort of at a loss of what to do as the problem is persisting.

Does anyone know of any miracle conditioners? or protective hair sprays??

Thanks!

I would like to know the answer to this also. Besides getting a trim every now and then to strengthen your hair , I wonder if there are any great products out there.

There is a newer hair brand out there called its a 10 the leave in spray works wonders and they also have a deep conditioner. I highly recommend both.

Nexxus Emergencee is a great protein treatment. It really strengthened my hair a great deal when I used it. You need to use a deep conditioner afterwards though because it just strengthens and does not moisturize.

With split ends, or dry or dull ends, you need more than a good deep conditioner. You need a styling product you can apply after you shampoo and condition your hair. I really like Schwartzkopf Repair Rescue Sealed Ends. I have used this protect on a lot of my clients and they can not get enough of it. Not only does it help prevent split ends, it also adds shine to the hair. Also, you apply this protect before you blow dry your hair, just to the ends. And then once your hair is dry, you can apply it to the ends again if needed.

The only thing you can do is trim off the damage, unfortunately. Any product you use will only smooth them over temporarily and do nothing to solve the problem. Also, the damage can move further up your hair, splitting it in multiple places... not nice! LOL. The best thing for you would be to trim off all the damage, and after that make sure you keep it conditioned to prevent more damage

yes cutting them is the only option! Cut them and then do deep treatments often so they wont start splitting again!

I used to get a relaxer and color my hair, and it was a mess. Now, I only get relaxers, and use HealthySexyHair products (shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner). I make sure I get my ends trimmed every time I go in to the salon. On average, they say trim your ends every 6-8 weeks, some say every 4-6. Also, I use a heat protectant before using any heating tools.

While I can't say it'll help you, it's definitely helped my hair. I still get split ends, but not nearly as bad as I used to, and my hair is the healthiest it's ever been. You might want to find a color close to your natural hair color, dye it, and leave it alone after that. Or, use a semi-permanent/rinse instead of permanent color. And as mentioned, a deep conditioning treatment may help as well.

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy milk is Excellent. I also use the shampoo, conditioner, leave in, hair spray, and soya want flat hair spray! The healthy sexy pumpkin puree mask is a good deep conditioner also.

i have this product called "split mender" from beyond the zone (bought it at sallys). it's a leave in conditioner and also fixes split ends.. from my experience, i've noticed it protects my hair from any other styling damage.

First and foremost it is important to get your ends trimmed atleast every 1-3 months, depending on your hair type and your hair regimen (i.e. perm, relaxer, color, heat, etc.) I am a huge fan Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor. Also, Aveda's Damage Remedy conditioner is very good.

there is no miracle product, the only solution is to have a haircut.

but, meanwhile, you can just use a few drops (really a few drops) of coconut oil on your ends.

also, any nourishing product for damaged/dry hair is imo helpful.

I have very dry hair. I have used all kind of conditioner,shampoo..etc.. now before I wash my hair, I first put some jojoba oil on my hair. specialy on the ends.. I let it soak for an hour. then I wash it out. I have to say that my hair is less fragile now and it doesn't make my hair look greasy at all.

I am just like you i color my hair all the time. Its dry like grass lol. My friend recommended me to use Phytojoba shampoo and phyto 7 daily intense hydrating cream and it worked awesome. I buy my products at www.flatironexperts.com . Good luck

I agree with the "Healthy Sexy Hair Soy" products so incredible my hair looks like a Pantene commercial because of those products and I started using them with the advice of everyone on here!

Well...I know this thread has a lot of stuff that doesn't really sound helpful (cutting) but that's the sure way of getting rid of current ends. Then the focus is preventing new split ends. (And this was mentioned once before -- trimming will help as current split ends have a tendency to keep splitting up.)

So far I don't think this has been mentioned yet...no matter what conditioner you decide to choose...

The shampoo should be more focused on the scalp, the conditioner should be more focused on the ends (your scalp will naturally keep the roots conditioned -- but the ends of your hair don't really see that much benefit if you've got long hair!). You might do this already, but just thought I'd mention it too.

Hello,

It's first important to understand the components of the hair and why the damage is occuring...your hair is made of 3 main parts; moisture, protein, and ceramides. Moisture makes the hair soft, protein makes the hair strong, and ceramides are like the glue that bond the hair together. If you have split ends this means your hair is loosing ceramides and the 'glue' is no longer bonding which is why the hair splits.

The most obvious soultion would be to eliminate what it is you are doing to your hair to make it split...but for most women, and men, vainty is #1. My best suggestion would be to use a shampoo and conditioner that have the words "fortifying" or "Strenghtening" on them. A fantastic one is Redken Extreme, it's packed full of ceramides and proteins.
