I wonder if this works the same as accutane pill... Putting it on the skin would certianly be better for the body that is for sure. But I wonder if you would just use it as the pill for 6 months and then stop or if its like BP where you would have to use it for the rest of your life kind of thing. Thanks for the info

I will check this out.

Thank you all so much for your replies...........It's so nice to know that I'm not alone.

Linda

Ya you are deffinitely not alone. Not much we can do about acne at all. I might go on accutane for the 4th and final time. Acne can be so stubborn for some people!!!

Tyler, when you were on Accutane, was each round the same strength & duration or did your Dermatologist vary any of the rounds?

My acne stopped (except for the occasional cystic pimple) after the second round but the oiliness came back about 6 months after the second round.

No it was always 40 mg.. My job is a personal trainer and I have to do weight training so I cant handle anymore then that because it made my back so bad. I cant afford to miss work or anything due to accutane. 40 mg was even hurting me but I was able to make it through. The derm wanted to put me on 60 once but after that she never said it again. It was always 40. I was clear for a year after my 3rd treatment and just lately my acne started coming back.

My oilyness isnt to bad right now because its winter and my skin is a bit dryer.

I did 60 mg both times. I remember that I was always achy. It must have been from the lack of natural lubrication in my joints. The first ime I was on 4 months and the second for 5 months.

I'm going to ask for a referral in the new year, to my dermatologist. I haven't seen him in 2 years so I have be referred again. I'm going to ask about the topical Accutane. The apothecary said they will fill the script once I get one.

I am going to Shoppers drug mart this weekend and will ask the pharmasist about it, I dont have my derm till 3 weeks. I thought it was next weekend for some reason lol. Keep me updated what your derms says though :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I would love to hear more about this.

I wonder if it would make a good spot treater or if its meant for the entire face all day and all night.

Sometimes -- I don't get as much acne as I used to (but I used to have patches of tiny zits covering my whole forehead, it was gross) -- but I still hate my super-oily skin, which products don't seem to help, and I still get some acne. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I'm only 25 but I still get frustrated that I have skin like a teenager! I already look younger than I am and the acne makes it worse -- I don't want to be mistaken for the college intern at work!

I have a lot of info about acne in my notepad -- I'm sure you've done a lot of research after fighting acne for so many years, but maybe there are one or two tips there you haven't read!

I will take a look at your note pad thanks :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .. Im sorry to hear you still get acne, it seems like no matter what we try we cant win,. Acne can be so stubborn even after accutane with lots of people they still cant fight it off. Acne just leaves when its ready. I use A good cleanser and toner and its still here.

Girl Geek do you use moisutirzer even though your skin is super oily or no?

I use CO Bigelow Extra Light Face Lotion -- it's actually THE only product that's made a bit of difference in my oily skin! Of course, it doesn't last long -- before I started using the lotion, I would be shiny by midmorning; now I don't get shiny until closer to lunch. But, my face is still a disgusting, greasy mess all afternoon and evening if I don't keep using my blotting sheets! And if I don't use any products or makeup -- yuk, my skin just feels slimy!

I hear you, my face isnt super oily but that is pretty risky to use a lotion if your face is oily wow. But I thinkl i am going to give moisturizer a shot. I will just use it at night, mmy biggest problem is my pores. They are scarred pores and my primer doesnt cover well like it once did maybe because my skin is dry and I need a moisturizer. I wonder if that will help.

I thought lotion on oily skin would make it so much worse, I will check out that lotion you write there. I have Neutrogena I wonder if that will work for tonight, im nervous lol I havent used a moisturizer in so long.

Are you stressed over the wedding maybe? That might be contributing... I dunno either as I'm not an expert on acne and breakouts... I wish you, and Payladypa, the very best with this!

i know how u feel love ive done that too...and somtimes i did it for school...bkuz some girls they can cope with havin pimples...and can walk out of the house with em... i jst feel lyk people will stare me down...and i couldnt keep up a conversation because of the akward feeling

Oh yes, I read that in one skincare books I have. We definitely have to take good care our diets including insulin level to avoid skin problem/aging, according to Dr. Denese book.

I've heard from a lot of girls, that after removing makeup. try washing your face with baking soda. Just while your face is wet, put it on your forehead and cheeks and proceed in washing your face once more with the baking soda.

Tyler, I have VERY oily skin and I always hated the feeling of moisturizer on my already oily face but, something that has really worked for me is MAC's Oil Control Lotion. It really moisturizes but, at the same time mattifies the oily'ness.. it's hard to explain.. but, it's a perfect moisturizer for oily skin.

With all do respect, Dr Denese is not a Dermatologist. She is a medical doctor that has a PH D in Neuro psychology.

She is not knowledgeable about nutrition and food. She runs a spa and gives glorified facials.

When it comes to issues involving skin, I put my faith in medical doctors that have specialized in dermatology and can diagnose and treat skin ailments.

mac-whore thanks I am going to deffinitely check out that lotion :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

cyw1 I dunno who Dr Denese is, but I have to agree and disagree with you at the same time. I dont think anyone should put all their faith into medical doctors... You would think Derms are amazing but in truth they really arent. I have had some pretty dumb dermatologists in my day not even kidding.

To give you an idea how bad one was I just finished telling her that Retin A was terrible for my skin, and broke me out and just really made my skin raw. I was allerigic or something... After the discussion what does she say to me, I think we need to put you on a high dose on Retin A... I was so stunned I didnt even know what to say.. I just said dont worry about it Ill go back to BP and then left.

The only reason I say go to a derm is because they know every product under the sun but they dont know what works best for you, only you do. Another reason I went to a derm was for accutane. If your acne is bad then a derm can prescribe you accutane.

I have heard Dr. Denese's name mentioned on MUT and checked her out on the Internet. She is a medical doctor that has capitalized on giving beauty advice.

If I was going to have a baby, I would use an OB/GYN because they have successfully completed their residency and are experts on pre-natal health and delivery.

If I am having problems with cystic acne, I want a doctor that completed a residency program dealing with skin, and is now competant to diagnose and treat skin problems.

I don't want a doctor with a PH D in Neuro Psychology, who advocates lotions and facials and diet, to cure acne. Just like I don't want a Cardiologist handling my pregnancy.

There is acne and then there is chronic cystic acne.

Over the counter medications have no affect on my skin.

I find it pathetic that a doctor advocates lotions, facials and diet as a cure.

I find it sad that so many believe that the good doctor is speaking the truth.

And I get angry that others with chronic cystic acne, just like me, are told that lotions, facials and diet will solve our problems, when what we really need is a Dermatologist

who knows how to diagnose and treat accordingly because their residency was all about the health of skin.

I am surprised the Dermatologist wanted to increase your dosage of Retin A.

Are you refering to Stievaa Vitamin A Acid gel/ceam when you say Retin A?

I have been using Vitamin A acid gel for years - maybe 15. You have to apply it every other day for at least a month, to get use to it. And never apply it right after you wash your face. It is a good medication if you start off on a low dosage and gradually increase the dosage.

You're definitely not alone!! I'm in my mid 20's and I've had acne since I was 15. Only recently did I FINALLY get a hold of it. Now I am left with red marks (fading slowly).

It was only until I saw a DERMATOLOGIST that my acne was controlled. My derm recommended me:

Benzoyl Peroxide 5% containing 2% Clindamycin (topical lotion) - "kills" any active acne

Neostrata Toning Solution with Glycolic Acid 8% also containing 2% Clindamycin (topical toner) - constantly cleans pores, deep inside of the skin

These are the 2 things that helped me CONTROL my acne! I couldn't handle oral medications and I did NOT want to go anywhere near accutane. I'm very sensitive. It took a couple months, a bit of purging, skin dryness but eventually breakouts subsided from 1-2 zits a month to NONE!

If you have not used any of the above, why not give them a try? They are easily accessible by Rx and over the counter. Good luck :yaya:
