I've had a rather depressing weekend because I've broken out once again (albeit two large pimples on my chin). I even called in "sick" to work - I can't even think about showing my face.

I'm 45 y/o and have had acne since I was 11, and I've used every product available (even a course of Accutane). I also have some minor acne scarring on my cheeks and under my chin.

On one hand, I feel so petty letting acne rule my world while so many others have real problems about which to worry, but this is just how I have felt all weekend.

Recently, I've been ordering MMU samples like crazy so help me have the "look" of flawless skin.

I just feel so alone today........any one else ever feel like this?

Thanks so much for "listening." Linda

Im 37 and still (even after 3 times accutane) have acne issues. It's really embarrassing and I hate being in bright light because I always feel like people are staring at my bad skin. I can't say I've called in sick because of it but I have stayed home from other stuff. I recently went in for a facial at a spa and I think it actually made it worse. I'm going back but for microdermabrasion, hoping that will make a difference. I've even been considering tanning again. I have a lot of fine line and crepey skin due to years of outdoor work and tanning but when I tan my skin is great, I can go without foundation when I have a great tan.

So, I feel ya sista.

Anige,

Thanks so much for the reply..........you made me feel so less alone!

Linda

Which kinds of MMU have you tried? Ive been using BE for about 2 years now and really like it.

I've tried lots of MMU, and I'm currently using UGloGirl and Pure Luxe - neither of which contain bismuth (makes me break out). Both products give me good, creamy, natural covers, but of course, my skin never look "perfect."

oh yes, i know your pain! ive been having many skin issues lately and i found that the more i obbsessed over making myself clear skinned and perfect looking, the worse i felt about my self. I came to an all time low and i just gave up and quit worrying about it. I continued to go to the dermotologist and did everything they told me to do, but i left it at that. stressing over it won't help, infact it cold make it worse. with not obbsessing i found myself happier and with a thicker skin. all of a sudden i didn't care when people said rude comments, i was clean, i did my hair, i wore makeup, and made myself as presentable as possible. there is nothing else you can do. there is no magic pill or miracle cream, you just have to take the crap life dishes out to you. One thing i can say is, don't overdo it on the products, sometimes you can over-dry your skin and make the situation worse. I know how you feel, it's definately not easy. now ive cleared my skin up slighty but i have horrendous oily skin that people sometimes point out....sometimes i wonder why i was picked to go through such horrible things when all my friends seem so perfect. but i guess it's there for a reason and i won't let it inhibit my happiness. good luck and i wish you the best!

another one getting depressed over her face here ...

I'm 35, had the usual acne as a teenager but then had a clear face all my life. now i am getting zits on my cheeks, it started about 4 or 5 mos. ago. i think its hormonal coz i see a whole mess of other changes going on with my body in general. Anyway I'm thinking of going to the dermatologist. Two spots on my right cheek have been there forever I just can't get rid of them and now two spots have erupted on the left. I just don't need this, and i hope it passes.

I too have tremendously struggled with acne.. Retin A has worked well for me, but I know it is too harsh for some. The best thing you can do do is go to see a derm, and they will be able to recommend what will be best for you, according to your skin type. It seems that sometimes you just have to experiment a lot in order to find what is best...

another thing I was thinking, too...so many people say diet has nothing to do with it, but I have found that it really does....dairy seems to be a trigger for many, also refined carbohydrates...has anyone else heard this????

i have never heard about the refined carbohydrate thing, but i think you're right, diet has a ton to do with skin in general. However, on another note unfortunately some people just are predisposed to getting acne.

I do this all the time. Next time you're at the grocery store watch what people are paying for at checkout. If its all junk and sugary and processed foods, you'll generally see someone with a pale or pasty-like complexion paying. Those paying for tons of fruits and vegies have different complexions, seriously ....

i'm not much for putting lotions creams and potions on my face ...

what do dermatologists do, do they poke and prod at your face?

It's actually not bad at all! They will ask you questions about your skin, and will want to take a look at any skin condition you may have. Then they will prescribe you something for whatever it is you are battling against. For some people (me being one of them). Prescriptions are the only thing that will work for acne... :sleepyhead:

I have heard that when people fast and drink tons of water their skin looks awesome but I don't have the discipline to fast :-/

btw- I totally agree with you Becka!! There is definitly a connection there....lol also, yea, its always being said to drink lots of water for good skin, but EASIER SAID THAN DONE, imo.....

:sadno:

oh i'm sorry this happens to me too... the week before my period i breakout like crazy on the bottom third of my face and don't feel like leaving the house :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i have found things that prevent any more breakout the rest of the month but for that week i just have to deal

yep, i think that mo. breakouts are something we've all just been cursed with, it is SO unfair !!

ok so the derm isn't going to prod and poke at me? good, me so scared!

i may as well nip this in the bud. honestly, i just want some medication to fix me up fast.

water: rrrriiiiight. i hardly drink any water, geez. maybe 1, 2 glasses a day

I am 42 and have had acne since I was 10. I have been on Accutane twice and have had dermabrasion to get rid of the scaring.

I still ahve really oily skin and get the occasional cystic acne.

Currently, I use Retin A daily and Neo Medrol acne lotion - for the break outs only

I am a big believer that hormones aggravate skin. Are you in perimenopause?

If so, estrogen and progesterone are flunctuating - this could be why you are experiencing breakouts.

It takes at least 2 weeks for a pimple to form - as per my Dermatologist.

I don't believe that food/beverages have anything to do with break outs. Maybe a certain food is causing an allergic reaction.

Yes its bull$hit!! Its even worse in Canada becasue there is talks of banning accutane here. I have been on it 3 times and still not clear, I wanted to go on it again but might not get to now because there is talks of getting rid of it.

But Angie says she has a great tan and that might not be a bad idea. I have seen it, the darker the people the less noticable the acne is. I have friends that have acne worse then me but they have great tans so their acne is not noticable at all.

I have come to the conclusion that its so hard to find a product that will help with acne. Maybe try and get a really nice tan sorry if you tried that already. I didnt read every sinngle post so im not sure. But it might just help with them being less noticable.

I am trying to get Dan here on the site, he is very good with acne and he is an adult in his 30's I hope he answers my pm soon. You are deffinitely not alone though.

Best.

T.

Tyler, I have heard there is a topical Accutane. 6% Accutane in an emollient base. You need a script but you apply it to your face and there are no more blood tests. Something to think about...

I would reconsider tanning. You are young and have really healthy skin. You don't want a leathery sun damaged face when you are older.

Ya good point cyw1. My skin is pretty bad now with scars and stuff grrrr.... I dont want to make it any worse...

I will look into that wow. I didnt know there was such a thing, I will do some research over the net. I wonder how they could make a topical of accutane. That is the strangest thing.

I read about the topical Accutane from one of Paula Begoun's newsletters.

I went to an apothecary (same as a pharmacy but can fill some scripts that regular pharmacies cannot) and they said they could make it if I get a script for it.

I'm in Ontario - can't see why Sask can't fill this script.
