Skin care, I'm so confused

I think "less is more"

once i started using what works for me and just sticking to those (and not getting tempted by the new "miracle cream") my face really improved.

I highly recommend SUNSCREEN, good moisturizer, good makeup and good makeup remover....

My routine:

AM:

cleanse with plain old water

sunscreen

PM:

Ponds cold cream (mu remover if needed)

neostrata glycolic acid 8% toner

neostrata smoothing cream 8%

I agree....less is more. I used so many products on my skin and couldn't figure out why it looked awful. I now use very little and my skin is happy.

I use clinical basic skin care cleanser, scrubbing beads, moisturizer and sunscreen. I also changed to mineral makeup and my skin is better.

Try to use gentle things on your skin. Good luck in the search!

Here's what I was taught to take care of my skin: Cleanse; Polish; Protect. I haven't always been so consistent with actually DOING it, but it's easy to remember. it's hard to make recs without knowing your skin type. But....here's some guidance anyway.

Cleanse - with something. Just experiment with different cleansers or try the oil cleansing method. You'll find something that works for you eventually.

Polish - this means exfoliate. Find a scrub or mask that you like and use it consistently. At least a couple times a week. Some are gentle enough for daily use. Again, it depends on your skin type.

Protect - Use a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15. Even if your skin is oily you should do this. Just find an oil free one.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck! :7dh:

My mantra was borrowed from Kyan on Queer Eye: "Cleanse, tone, and moisturize." :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> So, that's my regimen in a nutshell. I use Mario Badescu products and I love them! Check out his website: MarioBadescu.com, and you can fill out a skin profile and they'll customize a regimen for you based off of your answer, plus send you a whole slew of samples to try out. I think it's well worth looking into. They may seem kind of pricey off the bat, but the products last you a long time -- even with daily use. I've had mine for quite a while now and still have a good deal left. HTH!

I am interested in trying out Mario Badescu line as well. What products are you currently using?

For daily use I have...

Enzyme Cleansing Gel (it doesn't foam, which is kind of weird to get used to, but it takes off makeup and cleanses skin, too, so you can at least skip one step :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />)

Special Cucumber Cleansing Lotion (this is a really nice toner that doesn't sting or burn -- but it does have a little bit of alcohol in it)

Collagen Moisturizer with SPF 15 (awesome moisturizer! It's very light and a little goes a long way)

Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream (As far as I know, it's a good eyecream. I'm not that experienced with them, though, since I'm only 21 and am using it as a preventative measure)

For other things, I have...

Flower and Tonic Clay Mask (really nice! Gives you that night "tight" feeling and makes skin softer and gets rid of all the nastiness in your pores)

Kiwi Face Scrub (This is just .. ok.. I was expecting the kiwi seeds to scrub more, but I guess it's actually the seaweed in the scrub that's supposed to do the exfoliating with it's AHA stuff or whatever.. I'll probably finish using this stuff and then go back to St. Ives Apricot Scrub, because I'm one of those weirdos that likes to feel granules sloughing off stuff)

Drying Cream (awesome at getting under-the-surface blemishes. it doesn't clear them up over night, but it does make them smaller and less noticeable and then they're gone in a few days)

Drying Lotion (don't buy into the hype that this is a miracle worker. It only works if you have white-head pimples. Any other kind of acne is generally unaffected. For whiteheads, however, it dries it up and makes it crusty -- I know, how gross! -- and then you just wipe it off in the morning)

Hope that helps! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

here's what i do :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> :

morning

*wash my face with a gentle cleanser (Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 in 1)

*rinse well

*tone with a homemade toner or with thermal water

*moisturise. i have combination skin, if you have one, i suggest you use two different types of moisturisers : one for your T Zone, mattifying (i use La Roche Posay Effaclar) and one for your cheeks, usually normal or dry. mine are dry/dehydrated so i currently use La Roche Posay Hydraphase.

*i let my skin absorb the moisturisers, then i apply tea tree oil (from The body shop) on my t zone. it helps reduce the shine.

*i apply my eyecream (eye contour gel, Clarins)

*sunscreen ! it's very important. it reduces the redness on your cheeks, and when you have oily/combination skin, sun is your worst enemy. spf 15 is enough in winter.

every 2/3 days :

i exfoliate with a gentle exfoliator (Neutrogena deep clean).

everyweek :

clay mask ! you can make one yourself, it's easy. i'm finishing my Decleor.

i also keep by my side some vaseline for my lips or dry cheeks.
