I could be wrong, but I think you actually have to take the packing slip with the purchase, not the email (though having the email might help...)

AFAIK you don't even need anything (email or receipt) to return the item in-store for store credit. I know last year when GB had a product that a lot of girls on MUT didn't like, a few of them took it to sephora and got store credit to spend there instead. They'll need a driver's licence though and mark you down for a registry just to make sure you don't steal and then get credit, which lots of people do.

Yes, with my experience, I take the packing slip, which is the actual receipt for online orders (email confirms don't count as receipts). If you have the packing slip, and you return it within 90 days, you get your $ back in original form of payment. If it's been too long, or if you don't have receipt, then you would get store credit.

If you're going to use it at Sephora anyway, then you don't "need" the packing slip... but if you don't want to get tracked for too many returns without receipts then it doesn't hurt to bring it if you can find it.

Perfect!! Thanks guys, I'll bring the packing slip- maybe I'll return it per normal and use that $10 in the Birchbox store to get that Jouer eyeliner I'm lusting after.

i thought i recalled some people saying they were told the packing slip wasn't sufficient?  bring both!

Totally ordered that Smashbox set in the sale section and used the extraearly code I had a gc to use yay!!! I almost had a heart attack when I saw all the new sale items right before Christmas!!!!!!!! lol

The Stila Artist palette Vol 2 from Black Friday briefly came back into stock--$10!  And I snagged it.  GAWD, I've had a bunch of these smallish orders the past few days with random things coming back into stock or hitting the Sale page.  And I had told myself nothing more til 2014...famous last words.

It might differ per store?  I know for the stores I've returned at the packing slip is the "receipt" and is all you need to return an online order at a store.  I know I've read that people were told the printed email order confirmation isn't sufficient, but I don't see how they can tell you the order packing slip isn't enough.  It says right on the pack slip, online orders can be returned in store with the slip.

I'm so pissed. They made me feel like an idiot at sephora tonight! My boyfriend's sister wanted me to help her pick out a cologne for her boyfriend so I called to put the Fragrance Sampler for Him on hold yesterday. We braved the god awful crowd to make it into the mall. I told the girl I was there to pick up what I placed on hold. Then after milling around for 20 minutes (hard to do on a low buy), they told me someone sold it and they didn't have it in stock. They said the girl who took my hold info didn't do it right or else they would've called to tell me. I said it still said it was in stock online then they laughed at me and told me that the online system is NOT accurate and doesn't know anything about what's actually in stock. I really dislike this Sephora sometimes. Meeeehh. I'm just grumpy because it's the holidays and I'm homesick. End rant.

The retailer I work for is the same. Shoppers can look to see if a certain item is in stock at the store nearby and call to pick up later. It's NEVER accurate, unless it's a brand new item. Its pretty frustrating. They say it's because our website can't keep up with the actual retail point of sale because stores are ringing up sales all day and it takes awhile to update. In my opinion, I think our website sees that we had it at one point and then never updates or takes months to do so. Not sure if the same can be said for Sephora, but sounds similar to what I experience at work.

That sucks, because it specifically says "in the last 24 hours." What's the point, then!?

Grrr.  This is why I avoid people and shop online.  (Granted, I always give Sephora and/or Ulta another chance, only to regret it!)  I'm sorry you're homesick; it's the worst! *hugs from rainy Oregon*

I always get frustrated when it says in stock right before I go to the actual store too, but not really there when I go in.  But then again, if even 1 product were available in the last 24 hours, it could have technically sold out since then.  They don't say when the 24 hours starts or ends, or how many are actually in stock.

Or I'll want something to buy in-store on a shopping trip, and it'll say it isn't available in store, or is out of stock, so I plan a different shopping trip at another store.  Only to stop in Sephora for the hell of it, and they have the product! But buy the time I get paid again it goes out of stock online and isn't at the store either.  Their system is stupid.

100% fake, the packaging is off, and there is feedback that the item was fake.

All these chinese fakes start popping up around the holidays when uneducated people are just trying to find a deal on something their gf/sister/mom wants. sad
